Default Rental History

Hi,
I have been in US for 20 months and have been residing in a Managed Apartment complex all this time. I missed the deadline of paying rent only one once (deadline was 5th of the month and I paid on 6th morning with 50$ fine). I hope that is not a big deal as I missed this one time on account of pure laziness.

Does this one time late payment affect my rental histrory ? Will it be an issue when I am trying to look for a Managed apartment complex in LA ?

Regards

Uday

Depends on the manager. Most are reasonable people like you. They'll be looking for a history of paying on time without problems. One incident in 2 years would still qualify as having a history of paying on time. There are the occasional hard asses, people who have been repeatedly been burned, that will look for any excuse not to rent. You don't want to live in a complex they're running anyway so it works out for the both of you.

In short, don't worry about it.

Don't worry about it. If you're late once in 20 months you're the ideal resident
