Default Black neighborhoods in L.A.

Hi all, Im a 30 year old professional black male moving from DC to L.A. as I just took a job near the LAX area and I am looking for an apartment as I am willing to pay up to $1500 for a one bedroom. I am looking to live in a neighborhood that has a significant black presence near LAX. I wanted to ask if any of you have recommendations for me? Thanks

well if you are looking for a place near the LAX with a significant amount of blacks, Inglewood would be a good choice. According to city-data, Inglewood has a 47.1% population of blacks in the city.

Please, I mean, I know Inglewood isn't necessarily on "America's top safest cities" but people need to grow some balls and stop demanding "nice, safe, friendly" places to live. It would be great if we could all have such great accomodations but you can't expect to get everything you want.

Baldwin Hills, Ladera Heights, View Park, Fox Hills area are all within 15 minutes of the airport and it is where the professional blacks are. Apartments are hard to get but they do exist. The area is also very centrally located. Close to the airport, about 7 miles from Beverly Hills without getting on the freeway, close to the 10 fwy, the 405 and maybe 10 miles from the beach. There are a couple of large complexes over there.

My husband's friend lived in this complex Los Angeles California Apartments - Home - The Heights. The Heights on Alvern. It's an apt community but you can also find areas with homes and a few apts mixed in.

There is also Leimert Park which borders Baldwin Hills and has cheaper rents. You get the proximity to the upscale black areas without the prices. Parts of Inglewood also border these areas. Just stick in the hilly part and you'll have a good chance of finding what you want.

I agree with SurekRZA.Man UP!I live in SD and that's one of the things I don't like about San Diego.Everyone has that mentality;"nice, safe, friendly" places to live.Anything less than perfect gets people "worried" down here.

I agree with the replies above. Right around fox hills mall has some really nice looking apartments/nice neighborhood. Easy commute to LAX.

Inglewood, from what I've seen, is not bad either. Just have to check the immediate neighborhood. Can vary from within a few blocks.

NOT INGLEWOOD!!

Check out number 62
Top 101 cities with the highest number of murders in 2006 per 10,000 residents, excludes tourist destinations and others with a lot of outsiders visiting based on city industries data (population 5,000+)

Number 12
Top 101 cities with the highest ratio of murders to rapes between 2001 and 2006 (population 50,000+)

71
Top 101 cities with the highest number of robberies in 2006 per 10,000 residents, excludes tourist destinations and others with a lot of outsiders visiting based on city industries data (population 50,000+)

95
Top 101 cities with the highest number of auto thefts in 2006 per 10,000 residents, excludes tourist destinations and others with a lot of outsiders visiting based on city industries data (population 50,000+)

Ladera Heights and the area of Culver City near Fox Hills Mall are the best areas. Ladera Heights is one of the wealthiest majority black areas in the US. I think it's like 70 something percent black

Well, the parts near the NW corner of Inglewood are okay, but Fox Hills/Ladera Heights is stil better.
