Moving to El Monte...Please guide me
Hi,
I am trying to move close to work (which is in El Monte) and found this cute little place that fits my budget as well as has everything that I need & looks great (Ain't it hard to find that in LA?). I just want to know if this is a safe neighbourhood and any comments/suggestions??
I have heard that some parts of El Monte aren't that good so I am finding it hard to decide. For a first impression, the place looks nice and the street has a lot of individual homes. This one's kinda like the backhouse of a home.
I know very little about El Monte so if any of you have any inputs please guide me here...
Please map this location in google
Maple Ave, El Monte, CA 91731
Really appreciate your help!

It's a pretty bad area.
What is your price range and how big of a home do you want? I can help you research some nearby places.

I grew up in El Monte and spent many years living the same area you're looking at on Elrovia 2 blocks north and one block East. I have been beat, shot at adn stabbed in El Monte, alot good time spent a few night in the El Monte Jail, GOOD TIMES !!!!
You really want to get further NORTH of Lower Azusa Ave. It would be much safer if you looked at Temple City or Arcadia, not too far a bit more expensive.

Well, you should go for Pasadena. It's safe and fun, close to El Monte where you'll be working, and there is good public transportation there.

Charming Studio Apt. in VINTAGE SPANISH BUILDING (broken link)
Live & Work Studio Apt. in LA, close to South Pasadena (broken link)

The drive from Pasadena should only take 30 minutes, during bad days 45.
I actually never knew this until today, but Temple City is actually a great area according to the two sites I use to judge cities.
HomeFair.com: "Error"
Temple City, CA on LA Life
According to the second, stay away from the SE area. the NW area is the best.
You could also try West Covina.

I actually stay in West Covina rite now. Hows that?
Bet you are right about the place, its super safe and clean!
The reason I am trying to move is cos the drive is taking the hell outta me. I work late so by the time I come home, it feels like I am ready to kill myself.
Thanks for your inputs about TC, appreciate it. Actually I was checking lalife.com just while I had replied to your message But I didn't kno abt the other one.
Quick que tho...how'd you figure this out?
"According to the second, stay away from the SE area. the NW area is the best."
Does this mean the cross streets I mentioned
olive st, nadine st, daines dr off of Baldwin ave aren't good?
They seem to be well within TC?

I lived in that area of El Monte for 22 years (12 years north of Maple, and 10 years south). El Monte is better than its reputation. It's not any more dangerous than Pasadena, and it is cheaper. I was never afraid to live in El Monte. If you find a home you like, don't worry about the reputation. You'll have to lock your doors wherever you live.
