Once you get here, you can get a entry level job in retail or food service evenings. You are going to need 2 jobs. You can go an auditions during the day and your time off. Whenever that is. You need to get an agent and pay a photographer for headshots. Then, you need to get a professional portfolio. You will audition with hundreds of other hopefuls for commercials and bit parts on TV and movies. You can wait all day long for them to call your name for work as an extra. You will do the shoot and a stage hand will give everyone a $50 bill. I don't think you will get any further than that in the entertainment business. The majority of young teeangers like yourself get into porn, drugs and prostitution to pay their rent and bills in between commercials and extra work. More than half of you will go back home. The other half will end up homeless or dead. The LAPD will call your parents or other living relatives. They will fly out here to LA and identify your body in the morgue. Then they will make plans to fly your body back and have your funeral. I know I have never seen or met you. But that is the reality of starstruck young hopefuls from the midwest and south who come here because they are "California Dreamin''. You need to get an education first. Go to college and get situated financially before you think of becoming another Brad Pitt or Hillary Swank. Most of the successful ones were more lucky than talented.

the OP has already posted a new thread, desperately searching for a place to live, because his "plan" didn't work out and he was on the verge of homelessness. i try to talk sense into these kids, but they rarely listen to anything other than what they want to hear. and they always claim to be "different" from the others with stars in their eyes, and that they "know better." same ****, different day.

CSU's and UC's

That's like saying that UCLA and Cal are as easy as UCR or UC Merced to get accepted! LOL!!!!!!

I don't think it will be easier to get into. Depending on the location and population the university serves. For example, CSUF is the only CSU in Orange County. Their programs are impacted and overcrowded. They CSUDH has a lower population and is located in a less desirable area. They extended their deadline this year in order to get more applicants for some of their ED programs. Fresno State, CSU Bakersfield and CSU San Bernardino also have lower populations because they are located in less desirable areas compared to CSULB, San Diego State, CSUN and CSUF. CSULA and Cal Poly Pomona are in the middle. CSU San Luis Obispo is at the top of the CSU's. CSU Channel Islands opened recently. But, I wouldn't say one CSU is "easier" to get into than another. The more populated and "popular" CSU's will fill up more quickly and they offer more programs. UCLA, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and UC San Diego are in Southern CA. UC Merced, UC Santa Cruz, UC Davis, UCSB, UCSF and are in Northern CA. They all have the same admission requirements. (GPA, SAT score, references, interview, essay etc.,) One is not "better" than the other. UCLA has the medical school, film school and more athletic programs than some of the other UC campuses. UCLA is more well known nationwide. That attracts more applicants and increases the competition for admission.
BTW, CSU Bakersfield is in Central CA not Northern CA. (Kern County). LOL!

We put in our 2 cents. But, if they turn a deaf and dumb ear, what can we do? There is no substitute for experience. They live and learn the hard way. Same BS different day. I would be ripping my hair out if I had a kid like that. He can go to the nearest homeless shelter. Maybe they can help him out with food stamps and General Relief (Welfare). Boo-hoo!

My most recent plan was to get a job at a hospital as a secretary or something during the night...that way I can sleep a little during the day while going out on casting calls and doing all I need to do for acting. But I don't know..it's all so confusing. I guess I'll have to just play it by ear when I get there.

You will need a rommate and 2-3 jobs!

Getting accepted is not about just population but programs.
For example, Fresno State has programs in nursing and sports medicine that are in impacted status and thus hard to get accepted into. The full list of majors at all CSUs that are impacted (more applicants than openings) is here:
http://www.calstate.edu/sas/impacted..._2008-2009.pdf
The footnotes indicate which campuses are impacted for first time freshmen.

Katenik, stop with the disinformation, pleeez.
No, that was not the OP, CourtneyW's post about looming homelessness. In fact, CourtneyW was replying with some of his own experiences.
Apparently CourtneyW has secured housing in LA and is studing nursing at SM College.
CourtneyW, how about an update?
Have you found some acting work out there in LA? Do you miss 'Bama?

Don't you love how bitter some folks are, and quick to bash optimistic youth? What you seek in life can be yours with some determination. I wish CourtneyW the best! Hope we get an update soon!

We wish Courtney the best. It would help if he wasn't so starstruck and refused to take any advice we offered. His way or the highway.
Which is it?:
Is Courtney struggling to find a place to stay?
Is Courtney attending Santa Monica College?
What is up with Courtney? Since he is no longer following the thread, we may assume he does not have access to a computer. That means he might be homeless or living from place to place. If he was a student at Santa Monica College, as a student he can use the computers there.
