Ok so I just saw menace to society today lol. I'm from Bed Stuy, NYC. Was Watts the worst part of LA or was Compton? Or was that movie greatly exaggerated.

I walked around in Compton one day..trying to find Ikea.
Everybody was staring at the whiteness of my skin.

But all in all, it seemed like a pretty calm area. Nice houses, expensive cars, kids playing in the streets etc.
Nothing out of the ordinary.

That's Carson, not Compton.

I know but since I didn't have a car I had to jump off the metro in Compton and walk.

Uh, that's a pretty long walk. At least two, three miles. And NOBODY there cares about the color of your skin, it's between the Black, Filipino, Mexican, and even the White part of Carson. You're reaching.

Naw, Watts is a COMPLETELY different thing.

In the 80's and early 90's, Watts may have been much worse, because it's more poverty and based on the 3-4 main housing projects. Projects are always a different level of poverty. But on the other hand, there's really no major business or shopping areas in Watts, so there's no reason to go there if you don't have friends/family or a job there.

Since the late 90's, I'd say Watts kind of calmed down, and Compton tends to be hot just because it's so many rival gangs in the area, and the neighborhoods are tied closely together, compared to L.A. city's gangs who may have a whole square mile or two to roam. And, Compton is an actual city of 90,000. Watts may be what, 8,000-10,000? Maybe less or more, but it's just an area of the city.

Yeah the makeup of the neighborhoods are quite different. Watts has always been a poor and unstable area whereas Compton was middle class until the 80s

Watts has 102 homicides since 2007 with a population of ~37000 and Compton has 196 homicides with a population of ~ 94000

I guess statistically Watts is worse

Yea, and wow I had no idea that Watts was 37,000. I guess it covers more area than I realize...that means it's just a bit smaller than Gardena
