I went to see a Chinese herbalist many years ago in LA, and now I can't remember his name, or where I went to see him. He treated everything from colds and flu to back pain, and he took an hour to cook me up these huge glass bottles of medicinal herbal brew that I had to take home and heat back up on the stove, 2 or 3X a day and drink them. It was a dark brown liquid that tasted extremely bitter, almost like soup without salt. The taste was strange at first but then really grew on me. It looked something like this:

I now live in the San Gabriel Valley near Arcadia and there are tons of herbalists, tea houses and medicinal doctors here - but I don't know what to call this drink. Does anyone know what it is, and where I can find it, or how I can make it? I've looked online too, but everything is starting to blend together and I'm confused! Any suggestions would help, thank you....

Funny. I don't drink or drug, but thanks for thinking of me!

Anyway, I found someone and went today. The herbs are brewing as I type.

BTW you can produce it yourself. Try Ex-Lax.

I've bought some of this tea at times from street vendors in Asia. I've tried to find it at Chinese super markets but so far I have not found an exact match. Somewhere I have the name in Chinese - that is what I used in my attempts to find a match. I found close matches but never anything exact.
