Is Franklin Avenue, 90046 safe ?
Hi,
My family and myself are going to visit LA for a week next easter and I have seen a condo for short term rent on Franklin Avenue, Zip code 90046. From what I have read elswhere on this forum that postcode is a "good" area, but I worry that their may be rough streets even in a good area.
Firstly is it safe and secondly is it well located for visiting the sights ? We will have a car of course. The condo is here and looks really nice:

Franklin should be OK, although it's very hard to say without an exact address. The thing I'd be most careful about is if it's located next to the Hollywood Freeway. Look for the code phrase: "Convenient" to freeways. That can mean anything from a few blocks away, to right next to it. Not only will it be noisy, but also more polluted, and also kind of an attractive nuisance for the seedier elements. If you get an address, even just the block, let us know.

The address is 7250 Franklin Ave
at least that's where the google maps link on the website takes you to.

Hm, interesting. I've driven down Franklin quite a few times, right past that. I mean, you're only a block off Hollywood Boulevard, so the riff-raff can always find their way up there, but I think of that street as generally pretty mellow. Very residential, but also kind of densely populated, iirc. Lots of apartments, and can have some traffic going down it, trying to avoid Hollywood Boulevard. At least you're a good distance from the freeway.
I don't think of Franklin as a particularly bad street, at least not that stretch. Lots of time between now and Easter; I'll try to remember to look around the area some time if/when I drive by there again.

Its not a bad area. You're close enough to walk to Hollywood/Highland area. Just be sure that your rental comes with a parking space. Parking is next to impossible in that area.
You and your family will enjoy spending a week there.

I agree, it's not a bad area. Just use common sense when on vacation here and remember it's a big city and crime activity can happen anywhere. Just be aware of your surroundings and don't flash large amounts of money or expensive jewelry.

That address on franklin is a very decent area like the others have mentioned. Its on the western side, so its more upscale than some of the sections to the east.
If you can get away from the kids, there is a restaurant close by in the hills off of Sycamore ave (5-6 blocks east of your condo) called Yamashiro.
Its a nice place to go for drinks and a great view of the city.

There are no bad areas or streets in 90046. You'd be perfectly fine.
Yes, you'd be close to the border of 90028 which is more of a mixed bag but the westernmost parts of Hollywood proper are improving rapidly.

If it was located next to the 101 it would be in 90028 not 90046. However there is a very nice stretch of Franklin known as "Franklin Village" that is a few blocks east of the 101 and a very pleasant, nice area, kind of like a western extension of Los Feliz. (I'm not sure exactly where the border is between 90028 and 90027 - but something along Franklin in 90027 would be quite nice in general. Los Feliz is the nicest neighborhood in the whole city IMO)
