Who in the SFV - San Fernando Valley of course watches TV but uses either an Antenna or a cable box from the following providers Charter, Dish, ATT, DirectTV. Which one of these is the best to use in our area? I happen to live in the Glendale/Burbank/North Hollywood/Hollywood area.

Not a big fan of Charter.

If you live in Burbank/Glendale, then you're forced to use Charter, if you want cable. In North Hollywood and Hollywood, it's Time Warner. I have Time Warner and do not use a cable box or antenna. I just plug my TVs directly into the cable. No clunky unnecessary boxes for me.

Unfortunately, Charter went all-HD today and requires the use of a box for each TV. Ugh!

Doesn't each of those boxes cost money?

Yes, but current subscribers get two boxes without charge for the first twelve months. After that, or for each additional box, the cost per box is $6.99 per month.

So when it comes down to it, it costs money for each individual box, and the basic cable plan? 2 separate bills?

I don't know yet, as I just got my two cable boxes from Charter last week with 12 months free. A year from now, I'll be able to tell you how Charter is going to bill me. I would assume it will be on one bill with the individual charges/fees/taxes individually broken down. I get the sinking feeling it is not going to be cheap!

This is the current TV set I own - do you think my TV will handle digital channels/service without needing to me a SmartTV or one of those flat screen LED, LCD models?

My bedroom tv is identical to yours and works fine with the box Charter gave me. Not to worry.
