Hey guys! Soo I'm a 23 year old gal that just moved to LA about a month and a half ago. Within a month, I got a job as a marketing assistant. I also have experience as an administrative assistant and I have interned at a record label in New York. Ideally, I want to get into the entertainment industry (like everybody else haha). I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to go about this? Any good resources? I don't really have any good connections within the industry. Am I even being realistic in spending my time seaching and applying or will it be impossible?

Edit: Also, I forgot to mention I have a degree in Marketing and a minor in Fashion Merchandising. Something in the fashion industry would also fit my interests!

Are you saying you are looking for a marketing job in the entertainment business?

Hi, and congrats on the move and new job.

What your post doesn't say is what you want to do in the entertainment his: do you want to be the talent, the producer, the promoter, etc...?

No matter what you focus on, you should start meeting people now. You may not know anyone in the business, but you may know people who do, or they may know people who do. Start shortening those degrees of separation. Go to public events that may have gatherings of the folks you want to know, such as fashion shows, job fairs, charity events, whatever. Mingle, talk and most important, listen. Learn who is who in what you want to do, and learn what they are looking for. When what they want and what you want/have match, jump at the opportunity. It may not happen the first time, or the third, or the tenth but persistence is a virtue. Have your ducks in row when the shot comes along: be ready with your demo tape, your reel, portfolio, etc...

I wish you well. Good luck and remember us when you're a big shot

Either marketing or an administrative position would probably be the best for me.

Use your computer to search out every production company, post house, sound studio, etc. in your area. I don't just mean the big ones either...it's the little ones you've never heard of who will help you get your foot in the door. Email your resume and nice letter of introduction to every single one you can find and be willing to do anything (legit work anything I mean) and see what kind of responses you get. Don't wait to hear about a job or to see an ad or to meet someone with connections, that will get you nowhere. Then keep doing that over and over until someone hires you just to stop you from sending emails.

Be aware that many industry jobs are not the "full time with benefits" that you get elsewhere. Some are, but a lot are just temporary until the next project comes along.
