Torrance/Redondo Beach/WeHo
Hey everyone, Im so thankful for this website, I've been reading alot of posts..so here is my question...I'm going to be moving to L.A. in a couple weeks from out of state...im going to be working in the torrance/redondo beach area and I want to live in a very safe/clean fun area. I've been thinking of living in Torrance or Redondo beach..but then I thought about living in WeHo (what would that commute look like)..Im 28, new to L.A. and while I'm concerned about safety and living in some place that is relatively nice, I'd like to be able to go out dancing and meet people sometime as well since I won't know anyone here. Anyways, what do you think? I can afford about 1500/mo in rent.

I should also tell you this..im 28/M..young professional and gay...I have a pretty good job which I'm relocating for. Redondo beach sounds like it would be a great place to live, my only this is..how far is West Hollywood from it..I mean..safety is important, but i'd like to still be able to go out and not drive to far with my luck i'd end up in compton or something lol.

Redondo is WAYYY too far from West Hollywood if you want a sane commute. If you want beach, try Santa Monica (but even that is pushing it.)

Ok you all you best to stay in Redondo, Torrance,San Pedro,Lomita and Palos Verde. West Hollywood is way to far so is Santa Monica....Traffic is terrible in the L.A. area. So you best bet is to live close to where you work and also you would save on gas money. Good Luck on your search.... If you want a place to live in these are look in the the local newspaper, craigslist and you can also look for roommate in craigslist...

Redondo Beach and Torrance have great places for night life.... You will hear from the locals where..... You can always drive to L.A. for night life once awhile but I think you will really like living in the beach area..... Have FUN!!! I remember I did. Oh don't forget to Check out Long Beach as well....

You can certainly commute between West Hollywood and South Bay (many have similar commutes), but it might begin to wear on you after a while. One of the great things about WeHo is that it's a party every night, so for a young, gay person it's great for meeting people and always having some place to go any night of the week. So there are trade offs. You have to decide what's more important to you--a shorter commute or living in a fun, lively neighborhood with a lot of gay residents.
You might also consider Long Beach which has a sizable gay population and is closer to Torrance/Redondo Beach.

Thankyou guys for all your help...I kind of want to live on the beach, but at the same time I don't want to be bored...I considered long beach, but then again..i don't know..that city seems a little dicey (since most rappers talk about it in their songs lol) Safety is a priority, but I am young and I want to be able to meet some new friends...This decision sucks..but I am kind of leaning more towards Redondo beach (if i can find a vacant apartment/condo at 15-1600/mo)

Redondo has one gay bar and it's tiny and smells like death. I used to live in Redondo for years. There was a great bar but they closed it. You'll find the South Bay more conservative than other parts of L.A. LB is much more gay friendly. Weho is far from both and for me, a commute would be out of the question. Live where you work.
