Are we under the assumption that only white/non-hispanic can be racist?

I do, however, possess a slightly- accented speech that identifies me as a "foreigner," even though I am, by birth, an American Citizen from the island of Puerto Rico. Always protect yourself, and be on the lookout. |I did not experience much bias in Los Angeles, but that maybe was because I was visiting friends in the Eastern part. Good luck,

When you consider...
-The insane traffic
-Insane housing costs and cost of living
-Low wages
-Illegals
-The density, everyone is packed in
And that you have people from all over the world, it's very tolerant, and just about anyone can make it (legally that is). Everyone gets along. If you go to a predominately black mall (fox hills), white area (palisades, brentwood), persian (century city), european tourists (on the promenade), everyone gets along suprisingly well. You've got to give LA credit for being tolerant.
Then the hollywood scene, the valley. Its amazing the system stays together as it does.

yes, you are right. i'm fr texas and lived in calif for 15 years. much of the animosity is towards the swarms of illegals who cost the taxpayers so much in taxes and other resources. disliking illegals and minority americans is not the same.

There are 35 million pople in California. That's a whole lot of different people. CA cities are about as racially tolerant as you'll find anywhere.
No matter what color your skin is I don't think it's possible to live a normal life in LA.
As for the comments from Latina 7 it's clear she hasn't done a lot of travelling. Yes there are racist of all races in LA but it's the largest Metro area in the US so you're bound to have a lot of different types of people. Racism in California is nothing compared to many places in the US or the rest of the world. Yes we've all seen racism and heard name calling but just because one out of every 50,000 is that way is no reason to assume it's rampant. Even if you had 10K skinheads in LA, when you consider the size of LA and the scale, all the noise those 10K skinheads make is nothing more than a fly fart.
10K sounds like a lot if you live in Brokebutt Akansas, poulation 375. But in LA 10K is the number of people fighting for the same parking space at Costco.
Most of the people in LA are too busy chasing money and playing in the sun. They don't have time to worry about the color of your skin. You'd likely have more people giving you crap for wearing last month's fashions than your race. If you dress like a thug, you will be treated like one. That is a guarantee. LA is one of the fashion capitals of the world after all and it's all about image. You won't be judged by the color of your skin because you had no control over that but, at least socially, you can be tried, convicted, and exiled for the fashion choices you make.

NO I just don't have a lot of time to get on the net I work like 70 hours a week
[quote=Slauson Rosecranz;2102569]Still no reply from the original poster...?
Hey, waitaminnit...this isn't that pesky Confederate Ghost/Reverend NoGood/DaTownCryer guy goofing around again, is it?
The subject matter (race, 'I want to move to California, but...') is interestingly similar, as is the somewhat rambling sentence structure...
...and that guy *does* have more personalities than Sybil Thanks for the input That's my reply

Not at all. There are many biases among people white/black toward different races and cultures. I merely was depicting my personal experiences in South Orange County, Fallbrook, Bonsall, and certain parts of Northern California.

California is the biggest state in the Union; you've got all types. Cali's image is usually seen as fun, free-spirted, progressive, diverse.
But honestly, there *ARE* a few places that are the polar opposite of that.
Personally speaking, North County San Diego *IS* a somewhat homogeneous, xenophobic place. Poway, San Marcos, Vista, etc., not too friendly (or diverse), to me, anyway.
East county towns like El Cajon, Lakeside...it speaks for itself.
Simi Valley? It's reputation is sorta well known.
When Cali is good, it's *GREAT*. Berkeley, Santa Monica, Venice, Culver City, Mar Vista, Palms...all live up to the positive 'California image'.
But the state as a whole sort of piggybacks on the reputation of very specific towns and suburbs, and someone moving from out of state who doesn't know that may find themselves in a very awkward position.
Is California just like Alabama? No. Of course not.
But I don't doubt in the least bit that the poster had some problems in Fallbrook. This is a state of dichotomies, of extreme opposites, and people should at least honest enough to acknowledge that.
No, people don't seem to be as...'unsavory' as some people back East, but where do you ('you' rhetorically speaking) live? Because 'California tolerance' definitely varies from place to place.
|
Brilliantly put. And I thank you so very much, for your statement. I believe that many folks in CA., are on denial.
