Just stay away from the towns I mentioned. L.A. is more tolerant.

I think California's (particularly Southern Cal) diversity and tolerance is one of the things I appreciate most and will miss the most. Our family is moving, probably next year, and we know will not find the same diversity that we have enjoyed for years. I'm sure there is racism here, just like there is anywhere else, but I think Southern Cal goes beyond mere tolerance to acceptance and appreciation.
I used to commute on Figuroa every day between Manchester and China town. I'm an Asian female and never felt unsafe driving through. I even stopped to get gas somewhere south of USC. Of course this is during daytime hours and I didn't do anything to draw attention to myself. No one gave me a second look.
One of the pps mentioned something like if you dress like a gangbanger no matter what your color, people will take you for one. I think that is probably very true. People tend to judge more on exteriors and manner than skin color. At least that has been my personal experience.

Los Angeles is a racially tolerant place. My brother-in-law is black and lives in nice estate in Beverly Hills and he loves it. His neighbors all love and adore him. I have a diverse group of friends (hispanic, black, arab, gay, etc.) and they love LA for it's diversity and racial tolerance.
You'll get looked down on your economy car or your last season's ensemble way more than your color.
Now Orange County is a different story.

California is not one of the most racist states in the nation...I'm not quite sure where you got that idea. California is a state of over 33 million people and one of the most diverse (if not THE MOST diverse states in the nation), you'll find a racist (or racist group) here and there in every state. There are far more non-racists than racisits...don't worry about this!

Look, there are like 20 billion people in L.A., all from different walks of life and different parts of the world. No one is really going to care if a black person enters the city limits. Yes, there is much anti-black sentiment in L.A., and racial "tension". But there's nothing here to prevent a Black person from living a normal life. If you already have a job lined up, and want to do it, then do it.
The big question is: why would you even WANT to live in L.A. Are you really going to be making more money, considering the cost of living out here. It's pretty expensive overall. But, to each his own.

Race dosen't matter here in LA. I'm a 20 year old black male, and I live great. I live in the Hollywood Hills. I do well financially speaking. Beverly Hills is also a great atmosphere. You wouldn't be the only black person walking on Rodeo Drive to shop.

Unless you plan to go to prison or jail or be in a gang, the only color that really matters is the pretty green. Money and class trump race in general.

Hi Gene, your location and the way you present yourself makes a huge difference on your quality of life and experiences in L.A.
Racism exists everywhere, but I consider L.A and most of California tolerant of all groups of people
