I havent had fish in a while and i've been searching, but no luck. I've been to the Fish King in Glendale, i've been to Tusquellas in Farmers Market/Grove, i've been to the Gelsons in West Hollywood and a few other places and the fish doesnt look that great to my eye. Is there something to do with the inability to get good wild salmon in the winter? The sea bass usually looks good, but i'm not too keen on paying 32 per pound.

Any of you guys purchase your own fish, cook it at home? I'm really picky, i want the fish glowing (in a good way of course), i know what i want to see when i look in that glass case and i havent seen it recently.

Santa Monica Seafood supposedly sells good fish.

FYI all salmon (and I mean ALL, even Whole foods and the like) in supermarkets is dyed to look pinker and healthier than it actually is, and more than likely came from a fish farm. I wouldn't eat it too often.

Almost forgot - you can sometimes find really good fish at Asian markets as well, but it's whole - as it should be - not already cut up and packaged.

Marukai has sushi grade fish and it is not sold whole unless you want it whole.

I have heard great things about the fish shop in Santa Monica.

Wild salmon is not dyed afaik, it's the farm raised salmon that you need to avoid.

Santa Monica Seafood has very, very fresh fish and they tell you where it came from (No Chinese fish). It's pricey, but well worth it. On Wilshire Blvd. in Santa Monica.
