I'm from Austin,TX and I'm considering a job in West LA (Century City) working in finance. Based on my research and other city-data threads, the Santa Monica area seems like the best fit for me.

I'm in my mid-late 20's, male, single, straight, active, and clean cut (no tats or piercings -- think Southern/Preppy) and I'm looking for an area with plenty of other young professionals in their mid to late 20's. I'm looking for one bedroom apartments with rent up to $2,600 per month ($2,000-2,200/mo near the beach is ideal, if it's feasible) and looking for an area where I could meet other like-minded young professionals. I'm pretty chill/low key and prefer to spend my weekend evenings grabbing dinner and drinks at a bar with new friends rather than hitting a trendy "LA type" club/lounge.

Which part of Santa Monica would be the best fit? If not Santa Monica, which other parts of LA should I consider?

Any input would be much appreciated!

Yes. Santa monica is 100% perfect for you. The new, gentrified, yuppie santa monica that is. Your best bet is to live by downtown santa monica/third street promenade. In one of those fancy, new dense developments like Archstone or Luxe.

Main Street adjacent is also good but maybe a little alternative for you, the north side is nice(the nicest) but it's a little dull with mostly multi million dollar family homes, and ocean park/pico is not your scene at all.

i think santa monica is overrated, you should try to look at pacific palisades and brentwood as other options.

maybe brentwood, but santa monica is closer to the beach and has a lot more going on. definitely more OP's scene. brentwood closes around 10 pm and anyone going out later has to hit santa monica or west la.

pacific palisades is dull, family oriented, and has nothing going on after 9 pm.

Your rent budget is definitely feasible, IMHO you could get a much better deal if you keep a close eye on the listings. There's one bedrooms in the area that go for 1600-1800, but they move lightning fast.

Personally, I rarely see anyone in SM, or LA in general, that I would describe as clean-cut/preppy. That sort of look...isn't popular here...lol.

(edit) I wrote 1500 at first but I think 1600 is more reasonable, haha.

Pacific Palisades or Brentwood? Nice areas but there is nothing going on at night. I live in PP, have lived in SM and now when we go out we usually hit SM.

SM sounds perfect for you. The area North of Montana is my favorite neighborhood in all L.A, with really beautiful and large homes on tree lined streets.
You should look into downtown SM and around Main St.
Montana avenue is really nice but is more family friendly and gets quieter earlier than Main or Downtown.

Most of LA is not preppy/clean-cut, but Santa Monica (in the last few years) is the center of it.

Will definitely keep an eye out for new listings. I'm sure I'm in for a bit of culture shock if I moved out west lol.
