something awful happened today on the metro red line. an elderly person was stabbed at Vermont/santa monica, there was a lot of commotion and screaming. I get off at this stop all the time and this has me very unnerved. I feel like there should be an undercover deputy at every train car,but I doubt that it would happen. about 2 years ago, something similar happened at Hollywood/highland.

Yeah, very sad. Not very good PR for the Red line either.

I've ridden it many times from Universal City to Downtown and there are quite a few loonies that ride that section of the line.

It definately won't help, especially since many people are already scared to take it. A shame really. I like the Redline since driving/parking in Hollywood, Downtown L.A and other areas is a real pain and expensive.

So was anyone here on the train? Was there an altercation of some kind or was it completely random?

The article doesn't have much to say.

Well article says that
"Two men reportedly got into an altercation when one took out a knife and stabbed the other at 9:18 a.m. "

But I agree it doesn't give much detail. It makes a difference if it's a random thing versus some kind of things like two people knew each other and one ripped the other one off over some drug deal or something.

It's a murder case now.

BTW I'm not sure why CBS News says the victim was an "elderly" man; other sources indicate he was in his thirties.

Sad that riders need to worry about such a crime when one to encourage people to use public transportation.

It will be interesting to see if there was really a fight / confrontation or if the perpetrator just sort of did it out of nowhere.

Yeah that would be pretty scary if that's the case. This is why people that are clearly mentally ill should be removed from the subway and other places. You never know when one of these people might have a psychotic episode and attack someone.

It's sad but some people can't be trusted around others.
