Terrorist bombed, grapevine, murdered... maybe it was when Jack Bauer was in town.

your SHOES? why would a thief want someone else's worn shoes? how would s/he even know if they'll fit?

Fascinating.

I don't think I remember that, I was 13 then. I read both the articles and noticed in the second one that there was a security process even then.

Be the change that you want to see.

Like that? I said it when I gave my valedictorian speech, dunno who said it first-maybe I saw it on Oprah.
That song played during the 1984 Summer Olympics, and was in serious contention to become the official song for the City of Los Angeles. As Randy Newman says in the song "WE LOVE IT!"

I would hope that would never happen.

This would be much better.

Okay, from L.A. originally for almost 27 years and the fact that you like the smog and congestion says alot about you. See anyone with children or any common sense would take the expense, fires, crime, and congestion as a sign that it is time to get your stuff together and maybe look for a safer, nicer place. Hollywood is there for the drugs, hookers and the beaches. To which the stars all love( if you've ever watched any news). Our eldest son whom was 7 @ the time was the only willing witness to a shooting that happened across the street from our house. Our best friend was shot 6 times in the head while sitting in a gas station parking lot waiting for a friend to pump gas. If you think I'm speaking about downtown Los Angeles or Watts(no offense Watts please don't look for me)..no I'm speaking of Downey, and Sante fe Springs. These, if you are as aware as you say are places that people spend $650,000 ON A STARTER HOME. All I know is you know if your a person that "gets it "you'll agree that California has it's perks but nothing is better than not having your kids pick out people from a line up or having to find a new friend. I LEFT I'M OUT YEEESS.. oh but have fun though man..in Hollywood or something.

LA gets my respect simply because of its contribution to this society as the place where movie stars reside and work. This is an exceptionally powerful industry and the dynamic ambiance generated by it when one is in LA, is undeniable.

I also respect a place that allows those who can afford to over-indulge, to be able to do so in any manner they please without limitations.

Anyone else dizzy? Anyway, my condolences to your friend, that's a terrible thing to have to go through. It does happen in other areas of the country too. Hollywood does not have a beach as far as I know. L.A. is not the best place to raise a family. If I were a family type, which I'm not, I would stay here in Indiana and be perfectly content as there are many "family" things here to do. However, if you live a faster lifestyle, as we do, L.A. works out well.

Jakehorror, remember these forums are supposed to inform. If only those starry-eyed posters who loved sun, sun, sun (and/or wanted to work in our valid "company town" industry, entertainment production) wrote in, valuable content like "$650,000.00 for a starter home in a dangerous, terrible area" would be lost to potential relocators. Anyone who's not inordinately wealthy and who's lived here long enough will see the criminal and economic downside of living here eventually. There are trade-offs for everything, particularly here. Newcomers typically are in the "honeymoon phase." I hope your good luck continues.
