Hello All,
I am single guy relocating from NY in a couple of weeks. I am looking for the following:

- rent for 1BR apartment for $1000-$1300 range
- Close to freeways (both work in Santa Monica & Film/Acting so need access to all studios)
- Safe area with other young professionals. Art/Creative "scene"/area would be awesome.
- Neighborhood-feel would be great (walk able area where I could possibly walk to groceries, coffee shop, restaurants, fast food)
-Close access to beaches would be fantastic
-Parking would be nice as well.

Can I find something with my requirements in Los Feliz, Glendale or Silver Lake or am I not being realistic? If not what are other good areas to pursue? Thank you all for your help!

Commuting to SM from the 3 areas you mentioned will make you want to swallow arsenic. I'd rule them out right off the bat.

You might have to up your price range a little, but I'd recommend Beverly Grove( A.K.A Mid-City West), Mid-City, Miracle Mile or Culver City. Because you work in Santa Monica but want to be near Studios as well, It would make the most sense to be in Central Los Angeles. That way, You could have a 20-30 min commute to work and the studios without having to take freeways (Honestly, being near a freeway is NOT a perk; for me at least).

Padmapper.com is where you can find some apts in LA.

Palms, Culver City, Mar Vista. Though rent is getting higher in those places as well but you can get something at 1300 for sure.

Damn, really? That sucks...but thanks for the advice! i picked those 3 areas as i was told it was the best for my price range/age/"creative" vibe etc.

although i'd love to be as close to SM as possible, the most important thing about location for me is how central it is, safety, and walkability/having cafes, eats around me etc.

any other suggestions for areas? thanks again!!

thank you so much for the advice and suggestions!! I really cant go above $1300/1350 absolute max - do you think this a realistic price range for the areas you mentioned? I don't know too much Mid-City, Miracle Mile. I know a little about Culver city....but are these places reasonably close to the center of LA/Hollywood?
And I agree with you about being near the freeway...I just assumed that was the only/best way to get to SM & around LA in general - no?

(As you can tell, i'm a newbie from NYC and have only driven around LA for like a week; dont know too too much)

THANK YOU!!!

thank you so much for the advice!!

May I ask anybodys opinions about the following areas :

Silver lake/Echo Park, Loz feliz,

Downtown LA - Is it safe? Still have close access to freeways/driving into the center of LA/Hollywood?

I hear North Hollywood is a creative/artsy airy and pretty affordable and safe - true?

Burbank/Glendale - Close proximity to center of LA? I know its more suburban = but are there still young professionals/fun places to go? (bars, cafes, places to eat, etc?)

Any thoughts about Koreatown? See a ton of seemingly great affordable apartments, but am thinking of Chinatown in NYC and it makes me nervous haha. Is it a pretty safe but diverse area? Proximity?

Lastly - what the hell is Mid-Wilshire?! Haha, see a tonnn of apartments listed in that area, but am not sure what it borders or its proximity. Assuming its a safe, more suburban area?

ANYbody who has ANY advice or suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! Moving to LA next weekend, and need all the help I can get!

THANK YOU!

santa monic of probably the most difficult part of LA to commute to. You really don't want to live in the areas you mentioned unless you don't mind a 1 hour + drive each way. Mid wilshire is the area between beverly hills and hancock park along wilshire blvd (more or less). it's actually a very nice area, with some great apartment buildings and centrally located to most of LA.

of course, thats just my luck! well i dont know how permanent this job in SM is going to be; so although i do want to be near it, its not an end all be all for me. Though 1 hour + either way will be kind of a killer :\

may I ask you what areas that fit my "requirements" (safe, central to studios, young professional/creative vibe, walkability, etc.) do you think are a better commute to SM?

Oh awesome, thank you so much for the information about Mid-Wilshire - that's SUPER super helpful! So hancock place is a nice/safe area? Sounds like Mid-Wilshire might be perfect!

Lastly, i've been reading that mid-wilshire is a "code word" haha or very nearby to Koreatown - do you know anything about that area? Safe/proximity? Young professional/scene?

Please let me know and THANK YOU so much again!
