While the current Measure R projects are humming along, LA officials had a meeting to discuss the future of a 2016 ballot Measure to speed up transit projects.

I would like to see a rail line more like BART (commuter rail using EMU's) along the 405 from LA County all the way to the end at Irvine Spectrum and Irvine Transportation Center and operated by Metrolink because it would be an inter-county rail line. Build an underground station under LAX. There is Airport money that could be used for such as station. This would be a heavy rail line capable of handling large ridership. They could use cars like the Class 91 Hyundai-Rotem ETS EMU. That would be on par for current Metrolink cars that are a cut above with carpeting and fabric covered seats and restrooms.

And how about using the ROW through Downey and La Mirada and next to the Fullerton Park & Ride at the 5/91 interchange continuing to Downtown Disney and serving Anaheim Convention and Anaheim/Angels stadium and Arrowhead Pond and parts beyond. This could also be the same tech, identical EMU's as my proposed 405 line and also operated by Metrolink because it would also be an inter-county line.

As for MTA in LA County only: more subway within the central urban core. Gold Line extension to Claremont, while ideal, should be lower on the list because Metrolink currently serves Claremont. There are other parts of LA County who do NOT have any rail, MTA or Metrolink, yet. Also, let's get the Green Line just a tad further east so that it connects with Nowalk/Santa Fe Springs Metrolink.

The West Santa Ana Corridor Project is already in Measure R.

Although you would have to transfer from the Green Line to the Santa Ana Line if you are arriving from or going to LAX. I know it won't go to Irvine, but Orange County will have to pass their own Ballot Measure because it just can't be LA County Voters building lines for the OC.

No one expects LA county to pay for it all regarding inter-countly lines, but if you had read the info from the link, you would know that more of the panel feel we need to address REGIONAL transit issues, even Mayor Getty wants more focus on REGIONAL thinking. In that spirit, I think the inter-county lines make sense and benefit both LA and Orange counties and their residents to a great degree. Many users would use the line only withing their county. say SFV to Westwood, as only one example, while still serving those whose commute is longer.

Further, Metrolink needs to continue even further beyond San Bernardion and Riverside because that is where the people are a moving. Temecula and communities deeper into San Bernardino counties. The extension to Redlands is the only one that will be a reality.

Some more info on the potential transit measure.

"Metro has not yet decided to put a measure on the ballot. But with as much as $27 billion in added tax money to spend on rail projects, advocates said, the agency could build a light-rail link to Burbank's Bob Hope Airport, convert the San Fernando Valley Orange Line busway to rail and extend the Green Line near LAX to sweep through South Bay cities and connect with the Blue Line in Long Beach."

Sepulveda Pass toll road or rail line possible under new tax plan
