I'd say move to Woodland Hills/Encino/Sherman Oaks. Closer to the city and there are more interesting things to do in the valley than there are in Agoura / Thousand Oaks.

Even though kttam is being sarcastic, Reseda is not a bad option as long as you find the right block. Don't go north of Sherman Way and it's not a bad place to live at all.

I will definitely look into those areas, thank you. Will the commute to Agoura Hills be too much? I will be expected to start at 8am and will finish about 5pm if that makes a difference.

I've booked a place in West Hills and will stay there for a month until I familiarise myself with the other areas. I really don't want to end up living in a super quiet family neighbourhood. I need to have caffes/dining options nearby, and I've walked to everything/everywhere all my life so at least some degree of walkability is important to me.

About the dog - when I do a search on padmapper and tick the dogs ok box, 80% of the results disappear. In a perfect case scenario I'll find a room in a 3 bed house, pets allowed, 420 and couchsurfers friendly. Seems like it's too much to ask for at this point however
