Default Any thoughts on Eagle Rock?

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are moving to LA next spring. One of the areas we're thinking about is Eagle Rock, but there don't seem to be as many opinions about it as there are about other areas. We've heard it described as similar to Los Feliz and Silver Lake, but cheaper. Any opinions on this area? What are the shops and restaurants and overall public life like? Is the commercial area walkable from the residential area? Are there certain parts of Eagle Rock to avoid or seek out?

Thanks for any and all comments!

The Rock is nice. Middle-class to Upper Middle-class residential neighborhood.
Quiet and kinda isolated. It's sort of off in a corner.

Mainly middle-class white, Filipino, and Latino.

Eagle Rock is home to Casa Bianca, one of L.A.'s premier pizza places!

I live there now and it's a really fun area. lots of cool shops & restaurants, and it's in a perfect location... pasadena, glendale, los feliz, and silverlake are only a few minutes away.

No, it's all safe.

But Highland Park is a little bit sketchy. Not hardcore ghetto, but sketchy in areas.

I live in Pasadena and go through Eagle Rock often and in my opinion, you can have an okay street then the next street looks ghetto. I think it's a hit and miss area whereas the majority of Pasadena is really nice.

I like Eagle Rock. It's a fine suburb with some urban amenities. It's got the best location when you have business in the Arroyo area and Downtown. The main thoroughfares are eyesores, but the gems are in the sidestreets.

RobertC is on a distinguished road
I know some people who go to Occidental College out there, and they love it. It is upper-middle class, but I've always thought it looked kinda shabby and old (it's a very old neighborhood). I personally wouldn't want to live out there, but it's safe and affordable by LA standards, so take a look. You may like what you find.
