Default Attending a Wedding in Huntington Park

I just wanted to get advice from some people in the LA area about the Huntington Park/ South Gate area. We will be attending a wedding there in Jan. I know there are gangs in that area but I don't know if it is typical gang on gang violence or just random stuff. My main concern is that my wife is Hispanic but I am white and the wedding is an inter-racial couple also.

Also we will be staying in the El Segundo area near LAX. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Whenever the news covers a story about people getting shot at a wedding, its in a place like Huntington Park. You're probably OK in the day, but I'd be gone before dark and long gone before people get STUPID drunk.

Im always in Huntington Park and although it has its problems it's far better than the surrounding cities. I haven't encountered any type of problem and Ive been there at all times of the day. Just act like you live in the town and not as a visitor.

As long as you're staying in El Segundo you'll be okay. Just don't stay too late in HP. There is a lot of stuff to do around ES, such as the beach, Venice Beach, Manhattan Beach, some shopping malls, and stuff like that.

Thanks for all the replies so far. Any recommendations for restaurants in the El Segundo/ Manhattan Beach area? I would like to get some good authentic Mexican food while there. Any other information is appreciated.

If you want GOOD and AUTHENTIC mexican food you should try a spot in Huntington Park. Theres this awesome mexican restaurant called "Tacos El Gavilan" in HP, and I must say it's probably the best place Ive gone to in L.A.
The place is on Florence Avenue and Santa Fe Avenue.

Tito's Tacos is my favorite Mexican food. That's in Culver City though, near Washington Place and Sepulveda Blvd. In El Segundo, try El Tarasco on Main Street near Grand Ave. There is another El Tarasco in Manhattan Beach on Highland and Rosecrans. Manhattan Beach is more fun to walk around though. Oh yea, also at Highland and Rosecrans is Panchos.

HP/SG is not too bad. i was at a backyard wedding recently in HP and it was very peaceful. it was a cuban and and a white guy from the midwest. his family came out in their camper!!! it was fine. if you got to a cholo wedding chances are that the crowd will start stuff, but if the parties getting married are respectful then there should not be a problem. and cholos really dont crash weddings. they are lookin for house parties. if it is at a hall/ball room then the chances of trouble are even less. HP is safe and you will be fine even at night. this year there have been about 5 or 6 homicides in HP but they have all been lil thugs that prolly deserved it. no innocent bystaders. you will be fine in HP and southgate is nicer. one caveat, if it is HP or SG that borders watts or florencia then there might be trouble, but dont worry, latinos love white people. you will be a hit at the party. have fun and make sure to flail your arms as you dance.
