I am looking to relocate in January. Am single in my 20's and will be working an entry level professional job. I know California is an automobile-mecca but I don't drive and need an area with public transit-preferably subway/train. Was thinking Burbank as housing seems to be slightly lower. Any suggestions?

Car free Burbank sounds like a bad idea.

I suggest Hollywood, but it depends where you end up working. Covering large distances on public transportation is not fun in Los Angeles.

There's no subway or train that goes there. I'd just live in Sherman Oaks and bike to work. If not, you can take the Orange Line (a bus line with its own dedicated street) to one of the stops in Van Nuys (north of Sherman Oaks) and then take another bus south to work. Too much of a hassle for me, though.

Have a friend who moved to Los Angeles and doesn't drive. He's a professor at UCLA, found an apartment nearby but takes the bus to work.

Santa Monica, Westwood, Century City, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Hollywood, Pasadena, Downtown LA. Newport Beach and the area near Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, Orange County.

Yes, you can live there with no car. Good luck!

Find something near the North Hollywood red line subway stop or even universal city stop.

For the OPs needs, this is the best bet. Or living in Sherman Oaks and cycling to work as someone else suggested.

In general, there are dozens of neighborhoods in LA that are good for car free living. There are the usual suspects (Downtown, Pasadena, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Los Feliz, Koreatown, Westwood, Santa Monica) as well as a few neighborhoods that have improved in this regard (Miracle Mile, Mid City West, Culver City, Highland Park, North Hollywood, Glendale).
