I found this rather humorous:

Oakland = mini LA?

I guess the Oakland cheerleaders will be comparing Oakland to Paris next...

Actually, having lived in both The Southland and up here, I do see some similarities. Sometimes when I am in certain parts of Oakland and see a swath including certain art deco buildings, mature palms and various other features, I need to pinch myself. Of course, it is just a visceral reaction, and there are no doubt a number of dissimilarities too.

Don't think it's that crazy a comparison either, as someone who has lived both in the Bay Area and down in LA.

Silicone Valley is the new LA, actually. Oakland is just a sleeping city with old downtown. Good place to rent, not the best place to live.

Although born, raised in Los Angeles, I perceived a few similarities also. And naturally, I have eternal affection for L.A; but I do enjoy Oaktown by the bay quite a bit.

You must mean "Silicon Valley" in Santa Clara County. "Silicone Valley" is the place where aspiring stars in Hollywood get their boob jobs done.
