Hello all-

I am potentially moving to Los Angeles soon. I've monitored these forums for a while now but am still unsure whether I'm about to make a crazy decision or not.

Profile

Age: 25
Job: Secured
Job Location: City of Industry
Marital status: Single
Living preferences: Like living alone, willing to commute to work ~30min
City preferences: like urban atmosphere as long as there's plenty to do, need diversity, love being able to walk places, definitely need a strong nightlife

Just felt like I filled out an online dating profile. In any event, I heard DT LA is up and coming and from what I've seen online it's made lots of progress. I was there briefly 2 years ago and it was still pretty rough.

Is this a crazy commute to commit to? Are there other places I should be looking at?

It's a reverse commute both ways so you should be fine. It shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes. You could also look into Pasadena.

Why would you want to live in DTLA. For a place like Industry, why not live closer?

I'm open to suggestions like the one Howiester provided above. I'm not aware of any other places that are great for a young-ish single male and have a good nightlife that are closer to Industry.

What route would you take to commute from Pasadena to Industry?

I am navigating it in my head... and it seems like a really awkward N-S drive.

I don't know, he'll figure it out. Pasadena meets the rest of his criteria though!

Agreed. It can be done, though, and it's less awkward if you live close to a freeway; otherwise, you're stuck on clogged surface streets for a while every day. Downtown LA might actually be an easier commute. What about hipster-ish places like Echo Park, Highland Park, and Silverlake?

Deal breaker here is the nightlife part. Plenty of great family oriented communities east of the 605 like Walnut, San Dimas, Glendora, and on and on. Nightlife? Not so much, especially for a guy your age. DTLA is probably gonna be your best bet. Pasadena is swell and only about 20 miles from Industry but the commute, 210, 10, 605, 60, all of them, sucks big time.
