There is also a ton of positive work being done in El Sereno. Academia Semillas Del Pueblo is a great school, Eastside Cafe is a wonderful community space and the El Sereno Community Garden is great.

I work in the area of which you all speak and "Yikes", I would NOT live in the area. We have witnessed more car chases than you can imagine. We have had many things stolen from the building, day & night. The houses in the area are burlarized in broad daylight. We make sure we all clear the area before the sun goes down.

Every time I've driven through El Sereno, I leave with a frown, as the land has so much potential but it's littered with years and years of degrading homes. And it appears those occupants are firmly entrenched, so the odds of gentrification and renewal in this lifetime appear grim.
