If you chose the "safest" place insofar as earthquake activity to live, what town or area in CA would it be, if there even is such an area.

I have resently made the trip to CA and can understand why it is so easy to forget fires, quakes, crime. The state is magnificent!

But, the "little bird on the shoulder" keeps reminding me ..... and I really want to stay.

There isn't a county in California that isn't prone to earthquakes. They are a natural phenomenon here as hurricanes are to the Florida. If you have an earthquake phobia then I suggest you live somewhere else.

Just check this site daily Recent Earthquakes in California and Nevada - Index Map and compare it over time to where you can afford to live in California. Earthquakes have a pattern along the faults, but even this log is unpredictable as new faults are discovered constantly.

Two of my neighbors across the street from me were killed in the 1994 Northridge quake, but that's not the reason we are leaving Los Angeles the nanosecond my husband retires. We would check off lack of affordability, decrease in the quality of life in areas we can afford, lack of respect for American laws, and lack of people with whom to communicate in the English language as more primary concerns. There are trade-offs for everything, particularly when you're lower income as we are.

Earthquakes are felt everywhere in California, but the "safest" areas (those of which a 6.0 or higher is unlikely to happen in the immediate area) would be the extreme northeast (Alturas, Cederville, Susanville), the extreme southeast (Blythe, Needles) and possibly the cities and towns north of Sacramento (Red Bluff, Redding).
