They are pretty much the same. You cant go wrong with either. Will you be buying or renting? Kids (ages)?

Renting first. No kids. Any help with differences between the two cities would be greatly appreciated.

They are not cities, but districts/neighborhoods of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley. They are very similar and are close to each other. However, Studio City is closer to Burbank.

Once you come out to look for housing in both areas it will be easier for you to determine where you want to live as you will likely make your decision based on the rental options you see. You might even change your mind completely and decide to live in Burbank or somewhere else once you see all of the neighborhoods and the many rental housing choices.

Studio City is more yuppie than S.O. and harder to park but fun to walk around just as S.O. is. I find there are more rentals in S.O. especially South of Ventura on Dickens and Greenleaf. Tons of rentals off Willis Ave. and Ventura and freeway close to everything including Sepulveda Blvd. to take into the city. Good luck.

Since both are so close to each other and no real difference is safety, make your decision based on the apartments you like.

Default Thanks!

Wow. Thank you for all your responses. Please keep them coming.

What is the difference as far as restaurants, shopping, walking instead of driving, etc...

More choices for movies in Sherman Oaks. At least three different locations within 5 miles of each other and most walkable from Ventura and Hazeltine area. Probably better retail shops in Studio City. I like the Sherman Oaks location the best because of the easier access to Century City,Bev Hills and the beach all without taking the freeway.

I personally like Studio City just a bit better than Sherman Oaks. While I do love my gym (Magic Johnson's 24hr fitness) and movies in S.O. I think that the "vibe" in Studio City is more to my liking. You have a lot more people who are "settled" and more laid back and, they tend to be a bit more neighborly in Studio City. It rare to go out shopping and just hanging out at Starbucks in Studio City without people smiling, saying hello, making small talk. I get this a bit less in S.O. because of all the transplants who keep moving in.

S.O. has more younger, transplants from other areas (especially other countries) who try too hard to be and live "The LA Lifestyle".

I lived in Studio City for a few yrs and I would not recommend it. Although it is a nice area it is overpriced for what you get. Sherman Oaks is a lot better!
