My husband will be getting out of the military soo, and I will be a RN graduate. We are thinking of moving to LA, but we are not sure where. I am looking for a family orriented city, median housing, safe and great schools. Our price range would be 350-400,000. I am not sure if this type of place exsists. We are thinking Claremont, but it seems very expensive. If you have any suggestions we would greatly appreciate it. Happy New Year!

Why are you thinking about LA?
Have you ever been to LA for more than a couple of days?
Where are you (two) from?

What line of work will he be in?
Where (city) will he work?
Do you have kids now?
Do both of you plan on working when kids come?

We are currently living on the east coast, but we are from California. We lived in the Inland Empire, and now that we are going back to California we do not want to go back to the IE. My husband is in the IT field so he needs to be in a bigger city. We looked into OC but it seems pricier in general. We have been to LA several times, there are many parts I like and there are many parts I dont like..(compton, hollywood, gardinia) So we are just trying to find a good neighborhood.

What is your husband going to do once the tech bubble bursts again? Does he have a backup plan?

The median price for a house in Los Angeles County is about $520K. And normally to get something that's really decent or desirable you are looking at $700K plus. But it depends on the area(s) you are looking. LA County is enormous and there are many cities and communities to choose from.

Sounds like the best thing for you to do is to move to the LA area, lease an apartment for about a year and use the time to do more research on neighborhoods and areas you might want to buy a house and settle. Since your oldest is only three, you don't have to worry about schools just yet.
