Hello,
First off I want to say I have found this site very useful. It's great to get first hand accounts of people who live where you might be wanting to move to. Anyway to get to the point I am wanting to move to either NYC or LA. I can't make up my mind yet but I am still researching. Anyway I was wondering how is Sherman Oaks? I have found several listings that I like in that area. Are they any colleges near by that area? How is the nightlife? Are there places to shop? How is the overall area is it safe?
Thanks

Sherman Oaks would be one of the safer areas in the San Fernando Valley. Valley College is the closest community college located adjacent to SO in Van Nuys. UCLA and Cal State Northridge are also located nearby.

Sherman oaks fashion square mall along with the sherman oaks galleria would be your closest shopping destinations, not to mention over fifteen miles of shopping, restaurants, retail stores along ventura blvd.

I noticed in some of your previous posts you were set on moving to West Hollywood. Now why the interest in Sherman Oaks? You are kind of going from zen to zang.

Well some of the Sherman Oaks rentals are cheaper then the West Hollywood ones. I would definitly choose West Hollywood but I've been reading some post and some people blast LA so much it wouldn't be a good choice. I'm going to be taking a extended vacation in LA this summer so I'll which places are the right fit for me. From research it seems that WeHo would be a better fit. If I get a roomate I think it would be so much easier. And I'm one of the few people who is not moving to LA to get into any kind of entertainment industry. I just want to move somewhere where people are more open minded. I'm going to be a Business Admin major so I'm sure LA has many opportunites for me.

My advice is to find out where you'll be going to school first then try to find a place to live nearby.

Where are you going to attend school? Have you been accepted anywhere? Where have you applied?
Are you going to work while in school?
What is your monthly housing budget?

I'm not sure exactly what school I'll be attending. I will be going to be working while I'm in school. I would like my month rent to be about 1,000 to 1,300. I will most likely get a roomate and split the cost.

I think you would like WeHo more and would feel very comfortable there, especially as a young gay male. Getting a roommate would probably be a good thing for a variety reasons. Also, most people who move to the LA area DON'T work in entertainment. So don't buy into that myth.
