Horrys shot in '02 against the Kings, that was one of the greatest shots I've ever seen.
That series against the Kings was unbelievable, one of the most exciting series I've ever seen. Everyone here has fond memories of that. Hard to believe it was 6 years ago already. It seems like 2 or 3.
The Chick Hearn days were great. He and Stu on Channel 9, everyone loved them. The 90-96 era was dead, Elden Campbell, Van Excel, Eddie Jones. Vlade. Those days were so so, but alot of people still use to watch the games, the Lakers have never been "dead". Like other teams in the league that go dead, i.e. the bulls after jordan. Or teams that only draw 8,000, or 10,000 people a game.
The Magic, Worthy, showtime days at the forum, I was too young too appreciate those days. Those were classic though.

My dad took me to my first Laker game at the Fabulous Forum during the 1971-72 season. Wilt, Jerry, Jim McMillan, Happy Hairston, Gail Goodrich. Pat Riley off the bench. Chick Hearn worked with ex-UCLA Lynn Shackleford.

Cool.
I use to collect cards in the late 80's, early 90's. I think the earliest Laker cards I had was a 73/74 Topps Chamberlain and 74/75 Jerry West. The 76/77 oversized Jabbar card is cool to. The Star Co cards from the 80's are great too, very attractive.
I liked the layout of the Forum better than Staples. Staples is nice, it's modern. But the Forum was darker, much more intimate. More of a classic basketball look, like the Boston Garden or Madison Square Garden. And the uniforms looked more professional then. Didnt have their shorts down past their knees..

Very, very bad non call on Fischer. Lakers we're really lucky they won. They played 47 minutes of great basketball and got lucky that last minute. Kobe almost lost it by not running out the clock. He may have done that twice. Doug Collins was right on everything he said.

Interestingly, both the Lakers and the Spurs say this was a GOOD non call. I thought he fouled him too. I guess the fact that he put the ball on the floor instead of shooting through the foul was the distinction.

That would have been called for sure during any other part of the game. It was not a shooting foul as he was committed to dribbling. But, I think both teams were out of fouls (???, I forgot) so that was two free throws.
Don't be surprised if San Antonio wins tomorrow though. The Lakers won last night because they out hustled the Spurs and Kobe turned Ginobili off. The Spurs are desperate and well coached. It wouldn't surprise me.

You know, I can live with that non-call, considering how many times the Lakers were blatantly and clearly fouled with no calls made. The refs were horrible all around, that's the way they usually are in the playoffs - they really play up home court advantage (or if you believe the conspiracy theories of them fixing games via calls/noncalls under pressure from the NBA to produce a certain outcome...either a specific team advancing or a drawn out series, etc.).
I don't buy that stuff because otherwise we'd have a 2-2 tie in the series right now.
But I am looking forward to the Lakers meeting either the Celtics or our nemesis from '04 (as well as the late 80's) the Pistons.

As far as my favorite Lakers moments...definitely the '85 championships/finals...totally unreal. Those years were just so fun, from the late 70's through the 80's championships.
Then the looooong, problem filled drought, and the not quite good enough playoff runs of the 90's. The 2000-2002 dynasty also was spectacular...facing off against all of the Lakers western conference/pac division wannabe rivals (each of them thinks they're worthy...ha!).
2002 against the Kings was great, but 2000 has to be the sweetest. Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals against the Trailblazers. That comeback was just unreal. I was at the game and it still seems surreal when I think about it. The look in Shaq's eyes...so much hunger, he looked like he was possessed...they never gave up and to come back starting the 4th quarter down by 13 or 15, I can't remember how much it was...so clutch. The meltdown of the Portland team...really that performance was up there with the best of Showtime and the best of Jordan and the Bulls.
There were shades of that in Game 1 of this series, but it doesn't even come close to comparing. The Lakers were DONE, the dream season/dynasty was over, yet I don't know what it was, something kept that team from rolling over and giving up.

Here's a treat for everyone. This is the legendary Chick Hearn calling a little of the Lakers Celtics 1962 NBA championship. I don't think CD supports audio files upload so I zipped it.
