Is my car safe in Long Beach?
I was born and raised (and currently living) in San Diego, so I'm very familiar with Southern California.
My plan within the next year or so includes transferring to Cal State Long Beach after I finish junior college and possibly moving in the dorms or getting my own apartment. Now my question is...(and I'm not trying to brag at all), but would my car be safe around here? I'm a young female with a Mercedes Benz, and after hearing a few stories from my older brother (who used to live in Long Beach and Huntington Beach), who at the time had a Honda Civic and then a Honda Prelude, it left me a little concerned about my car and potential vandalism and/or break-ins.
I always try to make sure I never leave any valuable items (purse, money, iPod) exposed when I leave my car.
Any help/advice is much appreciated. Thank you!

CSULB is located in East Long Beach which is an upper middle class suburban area. It is safe. It is about 2 miles from the marina section of Long Beach where the average income is well over 100k and your Mercedes will be one of many. That said, property crime happens, even in well to do neighborhoods such as Naples and Belmont Shore. Lock your doors, don't leave valuables in the car, etc. and you shouldn't have any more problems near CSULB than any other city in southern california. Now if you live on campus and park in the university lots I have no idea what to expect. That really is a reflection of campus security.

Dorms at CSULB are only available for the lower classmen for the first two years. After that you have to live off campus.

The neighborhood in the area of CSULB should be pretty safe. Just use common sense (lock your doors, take your valuables, etc.).

I attended CSULB. The surrounding area is safe.
