hi everybody, i'm moving to los angeles next month. i prefer to walk, and wondered what the best location is to be near public transit. i've been studying the maps, and while downtown is where all the lines meet it is out of my price range. koreatown looks good; the purple line can take me into the arts district or over to pasadena. the expo line also seems like a nice way to get to the beach (opening in 2015, i understand).

i know it's a broad question, but do any locals have insight into good transit lines to live next to? i'm particularly interested in taking public transit to interesting walk-spots, as covered in this article:

nowhere to commute to... work from home or while walking... budget is around 1100 (thus leaning toward a studio in koreatown)

if that's the budget, k-town is pretty much it, or else I would look into Culver City area.

If we are talking just quality neighborhood and amenities, and decent location close to most things. and is civilized, then Gold Line South Pasadena or Pasadena wins easily. The surrounding affluence makes a big difference.

I am curious about all the people moving to LA who never need to actually go anywhere, but that's not the point of the thread. Your budget will dictate and Ktown studio seems like a winner unless you want roommates. A house with a couple other people may get you a better location.

You could get a shared house or apt on the gold line, but one bedrooms of your own start at around $1500. Studios can sometimes be had for $1300.
