Which parts of Lawndale are good?
My husband and I are moving to the "Westside" of LA within a month for my job in Culver city and possibly going to CSU LB for further schooling in the near future. After reading for hours on here and scanning rental ads, I'm looking at west of the 405 anywhere from Culver city to Redondo Beach. Budget is under $2000 but we'd like to stay under $1700 if possible.
I read that Lawndale is bad (so are Hawthorne and Inglewood), but there are still parts of Lawndale and Hawthorne which are good (=safe, peaceful). Can you tell me which particular parts?
I just saw this rental home posted for Lawndale, just West of 405 between Manhatten Beach blvd and Redondo Beach Blvd, which looks neat for a very reasonable price (under $1600). Sattelitte image of the area also looks clean and orderly. If this is a good neighborhood, isn't this home rental too good to be true? I hope you could tell me a bit more about the specific area.
Many, many thanks!

Is it safe West of 405 in Lawndale?
Hi again everyone,
I hope someone could help me with an answer to the above question. I seem to find more rental homes/duplexes in this area (just West of 405 in Lawndale, between Manhattan Beach Blvd and Segundo Blvd), for at least $200-300 less than the beach areas to its west. It looks like a neat area from Google Satellite images.
Is it safe there? It's by 405, is it a convenient commute to Culver City or to Long Beach? Is there anything wrong with the area?
Thank you very much for any input!
Quinn

Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale general are not a good area , except couple blocks may consider a good area , so I think you have to provides the name and number, or street name and between what street. Before p/p can tell you that is a good or bad area.
If I was you, I will looking in Torrance area.

The address is 4209 W 166th St. (at Hawthorne Blvd) Lawndale, CA. I found it on craigslist:
Very Nice House (broken link)
When I asked the landlord if that's a safe area, he said he's advised not to call any area "safe" because there's no such thing as a crime-free neighborhood...

It looks like a bargain and is close to the Driving Range/park, close to the border of North Torrance. The area is okay, a bit spotty in some places, but is still a good deal. I'd say jump on it.

The house is west of 405 freeway, but it's NOT west of Hawthorne blvd, is NOT west of Inglewood blvd. That area is just OK. I still recommend Torrance.
If you need to go to Culver City and CSULB, then why don't you rent at Culver City near work, or east side of Long Beach or Lakewood near CSULB.
You have a lot of choice , why you have to get stuck in South bay area.

I think your referring to an are that might just be OKAY but close to areas that that are not safe.Cuver city is a better option for you and I'm sure you will be able to find some for under 2k.In the end the $300 you will save in time might not be worth the time (traffic) and peace of mind.Torrance is also a better option but puts you further from your job unless you are positive you are going to CSULB I would try to stay as close as possible.

I live in Lawndale. I like where I live, but I think it's the only okay part to be in. It's called "El Camino Village". I'm a few blocks East of Prairie, between Manhattan Beach Blvd. and Marine.
We bought here because I wanted to be near my parents (They live in South Redondo or the "Hollywood Riviera") and it was the only safe-ish area in our price range that was near them. If you go a few blocks in any direction (other than South), it's questionable. Even to the West, just across Prairie is a creepy neighborhood. I feel like my neighborhood is a cute little nook with nice friendly neighbors and kids running up and down the sidewalks playing.
I'm not sure about the neighborhood you're looking in... I think once you get South of Manhattan Beach Blvd. (which it is), it's decent. Good luck!

Thank you very much, for all of your input. I will keep that house on my list to see when we get down there, though I'm trying not to be too excited about it.
