Driving from Santa Monica to Cedars Sinai during traffic
I am thinking about taking a night position (starting at 7pm) at Cedars Sinai Hospital and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long to expect the commute to take. From what I have heard, the traffic from 5pm-8pm during the week and going from West to East is horrendous. The LA traffic websites say without traffic it should take me 15 minutes (its approximately a 10 mile drive). Then a friend advised me during peak traffic hours to allow 1 to 1 1/2 hours to get to work , could that be true?
Thanks for the help!!

Even in LA traffic, 1.5 hours sounds like too long. Leave at 6:15, I'd bet you'd be fine.

Half an hour if you are extremely lucky, an hour and a half if you are extremely unlucky. The problem with LA traffic (and particularly with this route) is that it is so unpredictable. If your boss doesn't mind you turning up a bit late once in a while you can leave 45 minutes. If you absolutely have to be there on time, then I'm afraid it's bad news.

Thanks for the help! It sounds like LA traffic is just as unpredictable as life can be... I guess I'll allow 45 minutes and just keep my fingers crossed.

I think it's all about which route you take. Venice Boulevard going west to east moves pretty good at night, if you left at 6pm. Then, it would be a good idea to take Robertson Blvd. north from Venice Boulevard where it meets Culver City. Why don't you make an experiment and drive it mid week next week? Test it out.
The westbound 10 Freeway might be an option too, then exit at Robertson, NOT La Cienega. But try out both, traffic is unpredictable, which is why I like to know a few routes to my destination in case there are obstacles.
