I forgot about Lincoln Blvd. From its northern terminus in santa monica till it merges into Sepulveda by LAX, it's a nightmare. Probably because there's no other viable north/south option in that area.

Bundy/Centinenela/Gateway streets in West LA. Boy oh boy, what fun that is around 5pm.

No doubt West LA neighborhoods take the cake for this. I interned at Bundy / Olympic and the drive back to the 10 took FOR.EV.ER.

Los Feliz and Hollywood have some really rough patches. Los Feliz is really bad around the exit / entrance to the 5. Hollywood is really bad leading towards the 101.

I've also noticed that traffic in Pasadena south of 210 can get pretty heinous, at times reaching Hollywood levels but never anything as bad as the Westside. A couple times around 5 PM I have run out to the Pavilions around the block and realized after sitting in traffic for 10 minutes that it would have been just as fast to walk.

Los Feliz Blvd leading up to the 5 is god awful since every side street feeds you right back to Los Feliz. Highland and the 101 gets crazy, especially when there's an event at the Hollywood Bowl. But nothing comes close to the Sunset and 405 intersection, pure madness. A trip from UCLA to the Staples at Santa Monica and Westwood would take me 20 minutes in traffic when it's a 5 minute distance. Westwood is the worst.

Sounds like this is the Catch-22 to living near a freeway.

On the up side, you get convenient access to it and save time when traffic is light.

On the down side, you have to deal with major traffic snarls around where you live during rush hour, to the point you can't go ANYWHERE, whether it's to the freeway or not.

Plus if you're really, really close to it, you may also have air quality issues, as I mentioned in another thread.

What I really hate about Westwood is that there are a remarkable number of UCLA students who seem to believe they're entitled to walk anywhere at any time. Even simply driving to the City Target in Westwood cannot be done by me without somebody making me stop because they want to cross the street illegally. This propagates into frustration amongst drivers, which leads to a generally tense driving experience in the area due to the abundance of obnoxious, inconsiderate UCLA students who step off the curb with indifference to vehicular traffic. And if you drive stick, you better be pretty damn fast moving from the dead pedal to the clutch if you don't want to do a rolling stallout.

Santa Monica can't be that bad, can it? If you live there, you have numerous options for getting through the area if one or two streets are congested.

It's pretty terrible with all the Expo Line construction.
