Go to Florida. It's warm and cheaper.

These are not rational decisions. You won't be happy in California either. It's not paradise, and it won't be anything exciting for you when you're worse off than you were in Ohio.

More social programs for the homeless in LA...so go right ahead. What's one more for taxpayers to support.

OP I do have to ask, and this is a serious question but what is the appeal to a young person about wanting to uproot and move to CA? I can understand the appeal of beaches and weather but what else? I guess its cus I grew up near a big city that I never thought about it my 20s and I only moved because I was secured a job and thought it would be fun.

But what I want to know is why drives younger people without any stable job or concrete plan to move over here? I've always wanted to ask a transplant this but always felt it would be too rude. Why would you move just to be here?

The only reason why I haven't moved back is because I'm trying to get the most out of LAs employment and educational opportunities. I don't just want to live here just because.

Anyone else please feel free to chime in.

Can I chime in?

I've done it. And many others have done it. Definitely more common than you think. Many of us grow up in the suburbs and are interested in the opposite, the big city life. I moved to LA, only lived there for 8 months, but I enjoyed it and don't regret it. Because it set me on a path to where I am now and got me out of my hometown, where I could have stayed forever if I didn't make a move.

People do this all over the country, though. It's not just LA. People move from the strangest of places to cities like NYC, Minneapolis, Seattle, etc. At least in my case, I had more than 10 grand saved up. And that's definitely the way to do it. Moving somewhere without a job and no money saved up, or very little? That's a bad idea.

But people move cross-country without a job all the time. Usually with a bunch of money saved up. It's somewhere to start over and live in a place that falls more in line with what they are looking for. For me, I cannot for the life of me understand people who stay in the same place their whole lives.

I'm very serious honestly. I've lived in Ohio my whole life and I've always been the type to want to just move somewhere. I just want to make a move, any move. so why not california. Beaches, nice weather, Ganja, what's not to like? Yeah I might be homeless but I consider myself a person thats easily capable of adapting in order to survive.

What I'm really chasing though is the Dream. You know, that dream that most people who move out to LA have about becoming some hot shot movie star. Now i necessarily don't wanna be the next johnny depp all I really want is to make enough money acting to live comfortably. I wouldn't mind being a-list but I'm not gonna kill myself over it. Only time i was truly happy was when I use to act back in school and I haven't acted since then so why not move to the best location in the world in order to pursue my dream? Yeah there's a very good chance I won't make it but at least I'm gonna be able to say I tried.

The accident i was in very recently was basically the last thing I needed in order to convince me that I should leave. I gotta get out before Ohio kills me =p

Almost no actors make enough to live on just from acting jobs. You have to get a stable job and pursue acting. If you're homeless it makes landing an actual job so much harder and keeping it while you're homeless will be even harder. Dreaming is one thing. Stupid is another. You crossed over into stupid. Stay in Ohio a while longer, save up money, grow up a little, then give this move more thought.

As long as I'm in school I'm not allowed to have a job (stupid I know, don't ask why.) What I'm getting a degree in is not what I wanna do with my life I'm just doing it so no one ******* plus I'm not good in school I'm just not. I'm making this move.

Getting out of Ohio just might kill you. It's not bad to want to do this, but you need to have a plan. And money.

I don't understand. Why aren't you allowed to have a job but you are allowed to drop out of school to be a vagrant in Los Angeles? And how haven't you realized that almost no one does what they want to do for a living? It's a job, not your perfect Sunday. Suck it up.
