Default Best Burger in L.A.?

I am a cheeseburger addict, though I can only partake once a month due to "watching my figure." I have had the double at the Rainbow...awesome! I have had the In & Out (animal style of course!), and I have had a few that I cant remember so I guess they werent that great. What are some other burger joints to be sure to hit once we get settled in? Is Carls JR's $6.00 burger as good as they say it is? What about this big Portabello Mushroom burger I keep hearing about?
This thread is just intended for anyone to talk about, and pay tribute to the BURGER! America's favorite food pastime.

*This* is a toughie!

Man, this is tough.

There are so many great places, L.A. being the burger capitol (and burgers are *so* much better than hot dogs, aren't they?)
that I don't think there can be a single, king of the hill "best".

But *among* the best I'd say you'd have to include Apple Pan (awesome burgers), Tommy's (chili burger is so L.A.),
and the venerable In 'N Out.

That double-double always hits the spot!

My husband claims Fatburger is the best burger in the L.A. area. He says there's some huge burger that he actually needs to take a bite out of the top half and then a bite out of the bottom half to make progress on it, LOL. Also, if you're speaking specifically of the burger and not other things (like fries), I really like In & Out hamburgers. (Don't like their fries.)

Heard some people talking about "Three Bear's BBQ" in L.A.

But from the pic it looked like a triple "$6" and massive bacon and like it would clog your arteries and make you obese....
Good Luck.

I personally love a good In N Out.

Don't forget Tommy's.

Best burgers in LA:

1. Meaty Meat Burger - in South Central LA. Not sure if they are still open though.

2. The Original Tommys (not "Tomys" or "Tommies" ripoffs) - Any location in LA

3. In and Out Burger - All locations

4. Fatburger - All locations. Double king burger w/cheese, bacon and fried egg. Mmmm.

There was another tiny hole in the wall burger place in Los Angeles near "the Jungle" area of LA that also had great burgers and fries with seasoning salt. Cant remember the name though and not sure if they are still open. Hamburger City?

I have to agree with those who added Tommy's to their list. You can never go wrong with a Chilly cheese burger and chilly cheese fries from Tommy's. Also, my friend is very picky about his burgers as well and I took him to Pinks hot dogs and he ordered the Double Bacon Chilly cheese burger and he claimed "it was the best burger he ever and will ever have!". Trust me, this is a must "do before you die".

Hmm well I havent tried some of those the other have mentioned, but I'd agree with Tommy's - was very good. In-N-Out too.

Yes!! Carls is probably the best burger I've ever had.. seriously. Love 'em.

I want to try those Pinks hot dogs too.. have heard much about them, will have to try next time I'm in L.A.

whole foods at 3rd/fairfax makes a burger to order with good quality meat and fresh toppings for about half the price of comparable burgers elsewhere. they don't do fries, though.
