Moving to Los Angeles
My soon-to-be-husband and I are planning to move to Los Angeles from Orlando at the end of August. We're not sure exactly where we'll be staying, but his job is in West Hollywood.
I've been reading a lot of posts on this board but everything seems so negative..
Does anyone have anything nice to say about L.A?

Have you ever been to the Los Angeles area?
Are you going to rent or buy? What is your rent budget or home price budget?
Will you be working too? Where?
Any kids?

City Data in general is negative. Most people who live happy, productive and fulfilling lives are not on City Data 24/7. There is a lot of traffic and noise in this forum, a great deal of it from people who don't live here, but if you do a search you will find a number of comments on West Hollywood, which is a great little city in the middle of LA. There is a lot of positive comments on LA in general too. You just have to wade through a lot of crap to find useful information and advice, unfortunately. It's kind of like watching the news and all they want to talk about is Britney Spears.

We've never been to L.A. If we don't like it we'll move again, we just need a change of pace. Orlando is too small.
We'll be renting, most likely a studio. It will only be him and I and a small dog. We may have a roommate. We don't know our rent budget just yet, but we figure it will be around 1200/month. Its a ways away so we're not yet sure exactly what we'll be making. I'll be working as well. I currently manage a Vans [shoes] store so I'm going to try to stick with that plus I am graduating soon with a television production degree. I intend to work in the industry as well, on the side, until I make enough to do that alone. I do understand that that will take awhile, but I am very optmistic and ambitious.

LA is a great place to live. Where else can you be driving distance to the beach, snow, disneyland, Lakers, Dodgers, run into celebrities (not all of them are douche bags) hang out in the best night clubs/bars, have it sunny in the middle of winter or fresh in the middle of the summer. I know maybe I love LA too much, but I've been to several other cities and this is one of the best. Definitely drive by the city and see where you like it best, but I would recommend Burbank, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Marina Del Rey, Manhattan Beach, Universla City, Studio City, Tarzana, Encino, Sherman Oaks, Woodland Hills too many nice places to name.

If you can afford to live in the nicer neighborhoods it okay. Los Angeles in overcrowded and the prices are high. I'm leaving in a month because I can't afford to live here any longer. I hope it works out for you.
