I am looking into the choices available for middle school in Los Angeles. I live in Los Feliz where my son has attended a great elementary school for the past 6 years. The middle school here, unfortunately, would not be appropriate. It is much to rough and he is too naive. He is high achieving, but has some social quirks. Many of the girls go to Immaculate Heart for middle school, but I haven't heard any good ideas for schools for boys. That said, does anyone have a good suggestion? Oh, and I do NOT want to spend 20k a year.

Catholic parish school would be your real choice there. But the schools are K-8 so he'd go seventh and eighth grade and then to high school after. The price is right for private school but you'd have to work fast to apply to local ones if they have any openings before the application period for Fall is over. I don't know which are available to you but that's the place I'd look. A neighbor of mine had her daughter in public school thru sixth grade but when it was time for middle school she was appalled by the school she was forced to send her to and transferred her to the local Catholic school for seventh and eighth and it worked great. I sent my son for all twelve years and it was a good fit for him, a good mix of caring and discipline and a good learning environment.
