Surprised the cops didn't shoot him. Glad to see they left him alone and let him move on.

Certainly amazing that so called experts thought allowing news crews and big groups of people around and shooting him with bean bags and tennis balls was the way to get a solitary, stealth, mostly nocturnal animal to leave what it saw as a safe daytime haven

True. So Cal's flood control channels are a freeway system for all kinds of critters.

The brother of P-33, known as P-32, has now crossed the 101 freeway, and settled into Simi Hills.

Nearly all young male mountain lions die prematurely because they must either fight a strong, adult male puma or are hit by a vehicle, (National Park Services Ranger) Kate Kuykendall said.

Not sure about the Southland but up here these days the big cats are really coming into the developed areas. They know no bounds. We are now in a regime that is the complete opposite of the old cowboy days. We went from bounties, to a normal regulated hunt, to nothing. With nothing, there is population explosion. Extremes are not good situations.

P-34's death was due to ingestion of rat poison.

"Last December, P-34 made news when she was discovered lounging under a trailer in a Newbury Park mobile home community. A resident photographed the lion ambling along the top of a wall in her backyard.

P-34's was the first puma death conclusively linked to rat poisons since 2004, when scientists confirmed that two siblings died because of exposure to the toxic chemicals. Those lions, P-3 and P-4, spent most of their time in the Simi Hills, north of the 101 Freeway."

Two new mountain lion female and male kittens, now known as P-46 and P-47, have been discovered in the area.

"The kittens have many challenges ahead of them, including evading other mountain lions, crossing freeways and dealing with exposure to rat poison."
