2. Did you read the article? It's about FILMING, not production. Go back, and re-read my post. Filming HAS to happen elsewhere. Why? Because everyone has seen every part of LA in every kind of film imaginable. Outside of sets that are meant to be rebuilt and destroyed- it's pretty hard to make Malibu NOT look like Malibu. I see ACH in like 50% of the car commercials out there...

3. Film is changing. Via the internet. Smaller directors. B-productions that "hit." I guess if they consider basement webcammers as film...

4. Major film production will never leave LA. Lucas tried it in the 70's/80's and now look at that guy. :laughing Let's see, who else packed up shop and left...? (Queue jeopardy theme)

5. I also read a slew of entertainment based publications. Everything from Variety to Rotten Tomatoes. Every day. Tell me, what do YOU know about film? Sift through here and tell me how worried these people are about tv/film leaving LA:
Variety.com - Entertainment news, movie reviews, industry events - Variety Magazine Online

But then, hey, what would they know right? If you want to know whats going on in film and tv, read something other than the Times... Also, maybe ask some influential people about production/Los Angeles. I talked to the president of the directors guild today at lunch, you think he might have had some thoughts on the strike? [Did you know a strike was eminent?] I mean, no offense, but you should really research more than one news outlet before formulating an opinion.

The Film and Production industry will never fully leave LA. That would be cost prohibitive.

You'd pick the South over Portland?

Your post is wishful thinking someday the industry will be gone if the state does not get its act together. The people who run the movie industry care about one thing money and California is becoming expensive to do business.the movie business is a Business. The money guys can make movies and distribute them from anywhere.Like New Mexico for instance.

Good pt-dont go to Alaska or any other untouched USA place (to make it unliveable like LA..)!LA is frustrating, sickening-why everyone has a stick up their you know what..
I am not from CA-been here 9 yrs too long! It is a MESS, a 3rd world city, DENSE population. Rare to hear "English"-ever. Rents/homes way overpriced (w/a hwy going thru your front yard-IF you have a yard). Now the Mayor Valar-who gives speeches in "spanish" (instead of English) to appease the illegals, trying to get the nxt election. He only seeks the limelight but really doesnt do much. I heard: he cheated on his wife who had cancer, dropped out of highschool, flunked the Bar exam several times, was a gang member at 1 time, isnt dependable to what LA needs. He only seeks re-election via the hispanics & illegals that probably use fake IDs if they have to(a sanctuary city for illegals), the worst school system in US, w/closed ER clinics...When there is another big quake, no one will "get out" easily. Even a 7.0 wil block roads...(I was in the SF 1989 quake-strong at 35 miles away!) I WILL LEAVE. I dont want to live in Mexico/LA anymore.

I'd make a beeline to Portland OR with whatever was left over from outsourcing from JetPropulsionLaboratories, were it not for my husband. He doesn't like the PNW, where he was born- darn unresolved family issues.

So as a personal amendment, I'd add
-Ashland OR (good weather for PNW, great Shakespeare! Medford near enough for hospitals, specialized services)
-Sequim/San Juan Islands WA (sunnier parts of WA, Seattle near enough)
Either for superior quality of life over L.A. Green, no gangs, culture, gorgeous!
