I read an article a few years ago about some female executive that was shot by some actor wanna be who was living at some cheap apartment etc. etc. I'd have to find that article to find which apartment it was he was staying at. Remember that story? I'm not sure she was the target but somehow got caught in the crossfire? The gunman then killed himself.

Either that or I'm looking into Vernon, CA outside of L.A. I read of a new affordable apartment complex in that area. Or if anyone has any suggestions?

santa monica blvd is a huge street from the beach to silver lake. generally the part west of la brea is pricier and east of la brea is more affordable. but even that area is changing.

Something like this would be considered cheap.

a 1 bedroom for $1150
Live in Hollywood, charming 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom

Is probably the cheapest you'll find in hollywood these days. For a 1 bedroom at least.

Its a bizarre way to look for a cheap apartment (looking for a newspaper article regarding a attempted murder / suicide)

the apartment building referenced by the OP is the harvey apartments, located at 5640 santa monica boulevard just east of wilton place. that's where ronni chasen's alleged killer shot himself in the lobby as the police closed in on him:

Inside the Harvey Apartments, Where Ronni Chasen Suspect Killed Himself

for the record, ronni chasen was shot while driving her car in beverly hills. she did not get caught in any crossfire; it was an intentional shooting. several days later, the suspect shot himself in the lobby of his fleabag apartment building.

Well, if you bring up the murder, typically you are hoping that this will make people worry about the safety of the rentals and then possibly give enough reason to diminish the value of the rent from the landlord so this person can walk in for $700/mo

It's a great tactic for desperation.

Thats not bad on the rent for California, I am paying 1200 a month for a two bedroom apartment in downtown Nashville. I should move to LA and be a movie star lol
