Lets say, hypothetically, that you got a raise to $300k a year (if you're already making this much, say you got a raise to twice of that what you're already earning).

Where would you live in the LA metro? And why?

I would love to live in Venice by the Beach. Not right on the water (too hectic), but maybe two or three blocks away from the water. I would love to live out a rich-dude-pretending-to-be-a-surfer/artist lifestyle. I don't drive much, so the lack of parking wouldn't bother me.

With a salary of $300k, that would probably put my housing budget around $1.5M, which unfortunately doesn't buy as much it used to. for me personally, I'd love to live in a home in modest area of brentwood, but after a quick look, $1.5M will only buy a tear down. with that in mind, i'd probably like to live up on the hill in mar vista or somewhere in culver city. i like the westside, but i've lived near the beach for a number of years and the fog/clouds gets old after a while.

I couldn't live in LA because of the air quality. If I could live anywhere in California I'd pick Healdsburg.

300k a year (which is really what after taxes?) is still renter's or condo money. Maybe rent or buy a condo by the beach in santa monica.

South Pas, or Laguna Beach. I love the small community feel of both areas. One to two-million dollar homes are modest there, but that's all I'd want, even if I could afford more.

Outside of Los Angeles? Shell Beach or Big Sur.

I'd vote for santa monica. Like the beach lifestyle, the urbanization of the area, bike trails and nearby hiking spots.

If you can't afford to buy a house on a 300k/year salary you have some money management issues.

Why even bother responding to the thread?

I would say so, too. $300k a year is most definitely enough to buy a house. Maybe not by the beach or in Beverly Hills, but it's enough to afford something decent almost anywhere that could be considered LA or LA area.
