Is it a safe area? Are there a lot of things to do in the area? Are there walkable apartments near the school? How much would a one bedroom apartment near the school cost? Is the area bike friendly? Just trying to get a better idea of the area. Thanks.

I don't consider it particularly safe, at least not on Pico. The area does seem to be bike friendly, as it's certainly not bike unfriendly.

It's very yuppie, safe, and overpriced. However there is a lot of homeless there so it depends on your comfort level. $2000 is the starting price for a place (tiny studio) over there. Check out Venice as well it's bit cheaper but also a bit sketchier.

Kinda sleepy in my opinion. very safe though. One bedroom would be $2000< for something shabby

Not the safest part of Santa Monica, but still generally safe. It used to be really seedy through Pico, but it has cleaned up.

It's mostly safe. SMC offers free bus passes on the Santa Monica bus, so you're good as long as you live within reach of the SM bus. This includes SM, Venice, Culver City, and some other parts of West LA. The further out you go, the more affordable. The entire Westside is REALLY bike friendly. For the most part, the land is flat so it's great. One bedrooms are at least $1500.

South of Pico - very safe.
Between Pico and the freeway - SM's mini-barrio, mostly safe, there are a few pockets that are less than safe, specifically Virginia Avenue Park and just by it. Said area is "west side bad", i.e. average for the rest of Los Angeles. However even this area would be very pricey.
