Default How is Los Feliz?

I've been searching for a neighborhood that's as close to Hollywood as I can get, but also a tad more affordable than Hwood. I've heard some good things about Los Feliz and am wondering about safety, commuting (to the beach, or anywhere in the LA area) and nightlife.

I'm a single w male, 31, if that helps. I'm looking for 2 bedrooms for around $1,600 or below.

Thanks

I just commented on another thread about Los Feliz. Los Feliz has come around, but there are still some questionable areas. Mostly, I like it since it's centralized to the studios and everything else Hollywood. A former gfriend lived there without any issues whatsoever when it comes to crime. But, that's her. And, as for nightlife, Los Feliz has a few places and a nice after hours breakfast place that is just terrific... but Hollywood is really a surface drive away. No problem accessing that area from Los Feliz. Plus, you have the 5 freeway right there making you accessible to Warner Bros, Universal, Disney, etc off the 101 as well as a main thoroughfare south to Orange County/ San Diego or north to San Francisco.

Actually, Hollywood probably has a larger inventory of inexpensive rentals than Los Feliz. Much of H'wood is pretty gritty, though that doesn't necessarily mean unsafe.

I think the more accurate adjective I was searching for is "seedier."

I suggest you do a search on craigslist for Hollywood and your other parameters (you'll have to weed out the North Hollywood listings). You'll find many times more listings that fit your needs in Hollywood than in Los Feliz.
