Cross-country move
I know a lot of the posts on this forum deal with people moving to the Los Angeles area, however I do have a specific question so any help at all will be greatly appreciated...
I am a teacher and I will be starting a new job at Long Beach Polytech High School next school year and I am moving to the area from Atlanta, GA.
I'm just starting to look at areas in which to move but I am just not sure. I am familiar with Los Angeles, as I have family in the area, and they have offered to let me stay with them until I find a place. The problem is that they live in the northern San Fernando Valley area, which is a little further than I would like to travel, also I have plenty of time to find a place so there is no need to shack up with them. I would like to move somewhere near my job, but not in Long Beach. Also I have a daughter who will be a freshman next year so the quality of schools in the area will affect my decisions. As far as price range, I would just say reasonable, nothing too expensive, but I am willing to pay a little more to live in a better area with better schools.
Alright, I know that was long enough. Thanks for any help.

Specifically, what is your budget? Rent? Own? Apartment, Condo, House? Number of bedrooms?

Right now I would prefer to rent a house or condo if possible, if not then an apartment would be fine, as I am not sure how long I will be living in the area. Price range $2500/month or less. Bedrooms, 2-3.

I know it is a late reply but if you don't mind my asking, how did you go about getting a job in LA area while living all the way in ATL? I have been trying to figure that out so we can possibly make the move ourselves? Need jobs first though. Thanks.

What is your field? Research firms/companies/positions in your field in your desired area. Email resumes to every eligible workplace in your target area. Call them, too, while you are at it. Set up a bank of interviews all in a row so you can do several in a single week; that way you minimize your plane ticket purchases. Employers totally understand that you may need to do this. If your resume shows you are marketable, you shouldn't have trouble finding work in LA.
