So I'm deciding on moving to Inglewood from the Bay Area after I'm done with college and I'm wondering if it's a good idea for me.

Basically I'm looking for a city that is more liberal and open-minded and I see that Inglewood really fits the criteria. The cost of living in the city is also quite cheap (compared to the rest of California).

However, is the city safe? By that I mean how much violent crime does it go through? I've heard from some people that the city is like the "ghetto of SoCal" while others say that it has some nice areas in it. I mean it isn't like South Central L.A. or Compton right?

Lastly, I don't care that much about race but would it be weird being a minority there? (I'm Asian)

Thanks for the advice!

Make sure you buy one of these before moving down there:

Interesting observations from someone looking for a "more liberal and open-minded" place to live.

There are nice areas and not so nice areas in Inglewood.

I live in Inglewood currently to be close to work. It's a working class area. It has some really nice homes in some areas and it others it looks pretty gritty. I've lived here since last August and have never had any problems with crime or anything like. I haven't even witnessed a crime. The homeless in the area can be a little annoying though but they are pretty harmless. I don't mind it so far. I certainly wouldn't mind owning a home here.

One of the problems with Inglewood is the airport. Some neighborhoods get a lot of aircraft noise and some don't. If you go there on a weekday morning, it should be pretty obvious if you are under a flight path or not.

I don't recommend Inglewood. It is not a safe area and has high rates of violent crime. Just look at crime mapping websites or LA Times' Homicide Report. Also, not sure how you came to the conclusion that Inglewood is liberal and open minded. The area may encompass some of those qualities but that's not what comes to mind when you mention Inglewood to most people.

I think Silver Lake, Los Feliz, West Hollywood, or Venice would fit the liberal and open minded mold much better and are safer places to live. Also depends on your budget.

Liberal and safe usually don't come together in a city. Witness Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago, etc... Oh yeah, and Inglewood.

Yeah no clue where you got the idea that inglewood is liberal and open minded. Blue collar Latino and African Americans are not gonna be the epitome of tolerance. There are a few nice areas with ladera being upper middle class, but overall Inglewood is pretty meh with a large area that is run down and not all that free of crime.

Ladera heights is not inglewood. Ladera is unincorporated Los Angeles county, while inglewood is an incorporated city.
