You definitely need to look at that stretch of homes from Westlake Village to Calabasas. If your trip right now is 3 hours, maybe even living in Thousand Oaks for Simi Valley would work , but I think there are less Jews. I think it's cheaper though.

I think you are correct but if this guy is working normal hours, like 8-5 he's going to get nailed commuting to Burbank from the Conejo Valley every day. That's a really bad drive.

IDK anyone from that area, but GoogleMaps says 1 hour 30 minutes or something like that in traffic. I bet Simi is probably easier though farther from Burbank because you would take the 118 instead of the 101.

I'd say Calabasas is about an hour on average. Maybe 30-45 minutes on a good day. 1.5 hours on a bad day. The worst it would every be is if there was an accident at the 101/405 interchange. That is your worst case scenario (besides it being shut down) and that would take 2 hours at the most.
From Simi Valley you would probably make it there in an hour every day since there usually aren't many problems on the 118 unless it's shut down which seems like it happens a lot compared to other more trafficked freeways, but it's still very rare.

There is also metrolink from Simi (and Camarillo and Oxnard and Chatsworth) to the BUR airport.
And the hour from Calabasas to Burbank would be painful.

My commute today is about a 15 mile drive to a train on a major 2 lane artery into NYC. With current weather condition there is certain to be an 18 wheller stuck in the ice causing all traffic to stop. Once on the train i am 25 minutes to downtown NYC and 20 to the office. The windchill is about -2 today so starting the car, waiting outside for the train and the walk through the wind tunnel of downtown NYC should be loveley. Not trying to be a smart ass but being in my car from one hour in traffic in 70 degree weather would be like club med compared to what my commute will be like this morning.
The big deal for me is schools there and being able to find similar housing. I was hoping if I ever changed jobs and relocated it would be to a lesser COL area....obviously this is not happening in CA. From this site i've pretty much learned that schools are better and safer in my town in NJ and from other sites it appears that in Calabasas I will live pretty much like I do here where a buch of people have about the same as me and the majority have more or appear to have more because of their tolerance for spending. Though I do think the current economy is weeding those out who appear to have more.....So the choice is do I move from a place where we are pretty happy, continue my crappy commute to downtown NYC for a "used to be" fortune 50 company that has fallen on hard times and hope that things turn around or move 3000 miles for a company in a better long term situation and hope we can somehow adapt to West Coast life being very NE.

Definitely move.
The people of Calabasas can be materialistic sometimes, but not everyone. It actually sounds like you are a better fit for Simi Valley or Thousand Oaks. TO competes for safest city in the country and SV is always near the top. Extremely family orientated. Cheaper prices than Calabasas. And Charles is right...I completely forgot about the train that goes from SV to Burbank where you could then take a bus to your actual workplace. That would be a very calm trip every day. According to GoogleMaps, it take between 40-60 minutes to get from SV Station to Burbank station. By car it would take just as long, but probably be a little more stressful. I guess you could switch off if you wanted every day.
BTW, in SV it is 77.4°F at 4:30pm. The high was 81°F and the low was 68°F. Don't worry, 81°F here is not like in NJ. The humidity is low here. Thousand Oaks is pretty much the same.
I say definitely move here. You will love every minute of your choice. Come with your whole family for a few weeks. Visit TO, SV, and Calabasas. Try the commute from each one including the train ride. If it's not for you, so be it. You gave it a try and will not look back and say, "Would I like my life more in LA?" because you actually tried out the city, gave it a test drive, but realized it wasn't worth it.
