From what I have read in the forums, LA is not a place to go to with a mind to have kids. Too expensive for one. People go when they are single to enjoy being single. People who have kids seem to want to leave and bring them up someplace else... like Indianapolis

I live in L.A. in City West (western downtown to MacArthur Park) It is VERY mixed/integrated. I would guess roughly 40% Hispanic, 20% Asian, 20% White,20% African American . We have a very rich cultural mix and each contributes many aspects as far as cuisine, celebrations, shops, ideas and each has a very positive influence. I notice all the great cities are cultural melting pots and some of the more dull cities are usually segregated or a great majority of one color. Los Angeles, for the most part, is very integrated with a few sections, like everywhere else, exclusive to one color. I am White for the record.
From Wikipedia-
Los Angeles has become a multi-ethnic city, with major new groups of Latino and Asian immigrants in recent decades. The racial makeup of the city was 46.9% White (29.7% White/non-Hispanic [55]), 11.24% African American, 10.0% Asian, 0.8% Native American, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 25.9% from other races, and 5.2% from two or more races. 46.5% of the population were Hispanic or Latino (of any race). [56] 42.2% spoke English, 41.7% Spanish, 2.4% Korean, 2.3% Tagalog, 1.7% Armenian, 1.5% Chinese (including Cantonese and Mandarin) and 1.3% Persian as their first language. [57] Since the mid-1980s, Los Angeles has been a minority-majority city.

I've been to every large city in the U.S. and traveled extensively. I thank god that I was lucky enough to grow up in the rich cultural diversity of Los Angeles. What a WONDERFUL place to grow up AND to raise children. Like any city is has its bad parts too. I live in the East side and love it. The Cultures, museams, the beaches, the mountains, the deserts, the geological wonders, the sports, cuisine, the perfect subtropical/mediterrean weather/climate, the friendly people, the educational institutions, etc., etc, etc.

la is a very diverse place, , at least greater LA is. but you do have areas that are predominantly white, black, brown or yellow. monterey park and the sgv will be highly asian and latino. the valley will be caucasian and latino. south central will be latino and af.am. you can also find a mix of all of these in parts like silver lake, echo, los feliz... etc and there are millions of children that grow up perfectly fine here. this city is for everyone. gays, straights, singles, married, dishwsher to ceo. you will be fine.

Correct OB50 and The One! (got to fight those tired old boring cliche L.A. stereotypes that run rampant in these forums from a lot of knuckle dragging mouth breathers who really don't know anything about L.A.)

West LA and South Bay are incredibly diverse areas... South Bay includes Torrance, Palos Verdes, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach.
