London is one of my two favorite cities on the planet. The other is Chicago. You couldn't pay me to live in LA. Your air would kill me -- literally. Last time I was in LA I had an asthma attack that landed me in the emergency room and you weren't even having an air quality alert at the time. In London, on the other hand, I never had to reach for the inhaler once.![]() |

I generalized using Chicago becuase it is a big city that I assumed had the same big city problems. I have been there and have seen some beautiful areas as well as the projects. Didn't mean to offend and I haven't visited with any great length, the Chicago forum. I was generalizing about big city problems and lumped you in. I do appologize.
But I have never heard anyone disagree with this sentiment regarding Chicago - Bbbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! ![]() As far as the Nashville stats, I have reviewed them, and I know how to read the FBI stats since I deal with the fibbies myself. Funny thing about stats though, when you stretch them out to create the per 100,000 range, things get a bit skewed. Nevertheless, I wasn't planning on moving to downtown Nashville either. Its a reference to middle Tennessee that has many beautiful cities with great schools, communities, landscape and weather except for humidity. Since I was born and raised in warm climate, I gotta go for the humidity over the extreme cold. ---You wouldn't want me to be a PACIFICOPCICLE now would ya? ![]() |

It does get cold in Chicago in winter. Not as cold as Minneapolis, but cold enough to make fur coats socially acceptable. You'll even see men wearing them, mostly fur-side in styles. I wore a full length mink to work almost everyday in winter. So did many other women. Can't beat fur for warmth. But back OT, yeah, Tennessee has some lovely spots and nice people. It also has a lot of poor white trash. I know 'cause I've got a cousin there and she's definitely trash. Take a little drive into the southeastern hills and you'll think you're on location in Deliverance. Drive over to Memphis and you'll be in the heart of the Old South, Confederate Battle Flags and all. Suburbs or not, you're gonna be in the redneck Bible Belt. One of the first things people are gonna want to know about you is where you go to church. If you don't go to church now, I guarantee you'll be pestered to death until you let someone take your kids to their church. They might give up on saving you, but they're sure as sh@# are gonna try to save your kids whether you want them saved or not. ![]() Not tryin' to scare you off. Just tryin' to let you know the place has a definite flavor. It's kind of like strawberry ice cream; some people really like it and some people really don't. ![]() |

Don't get me wrong, I know for a fact having temporarily lived in southern Cali and with my extended stays every year that LA traffic is worse than Dallas. But I get the impression that certain aspects of it are exaggerated. |

Well, when I was there for a week, my family and I were invited to church three times. Funny thing though, kinda strange to be worried about children being invited to church, when what I fear here is my children being invited into gangs and drugs. I'll take church over the 'hood any day of the week and twice on Sundays. (Punn intended)

There are a lot of evangelical churches in the south. I've always gotten a kick out of the ones that teach that it's okay to commit sin because God is forgiving. It's really opposite of the Catholic Church. (It's like all those politicians who suddenly find religion after they get caught!)

Geez, UB50, I was brought up in one of those Bible beating evangelical fundie churches and I was taught that it was the CATHOLICS who believed -- in error and to the peril of their immortal souls -- it was okay to sin as long as they went to confession and got absolution. Just goes to show that neither group knows what the other REALLY believes. ![]() If you want to get a dose of what the evangelical fundies ACTUALLY believe, try sitting through the documentary Jesus Camp. I heard it was on the Oscar short list. I can tell you for a fact it's VERY accurate and a real eye-opener for anyone not from the Bible Belt. ![]() |
